Moral arguments? Concepts of morality differ from individual to individual. Hence each to decide what fits within his/her moral compass, and allow others to do the same.
In the work I do, a successful compromise is one where every one is equally dissatisfied and equally unhappy. Not sure whether a compromise in a relationship would be seen in the same light....
Ultimatums in the professional world are to be made only as a last resort or where the consequences of having it rejected have been carefully considered and accepted as a possible / probable outcome.
Ultimatums have no place in my personal life. I either accept the situation or I move on. And any ultimatum issued to me will see me walking away never to return.
Well said, SG You are absolutely entitled to your own views and beliefs and should be unafraid to express them. There is never justification to resort to personalised attacks on those who disagree with one's views/ beliefs or opinions. I may not agree with your views, but I applaud your strength of character in remaining true to them.
I agree wholeheartedly with what you say here. Being afraid of taking the risk can mean never finding the one you should be spending your life with. Hopefully, there will be a bull-tamer for each one of us.
I have a sneaky suspicion I come across as pompous and a little sanctimonious at times....but using this kind of language is the only way I can prevent myself from sinking to expletives of the one syllable variety..
Reading the posts on this thread this morning, without the obvious heightened emotions that led to them, I cannot help but express my dismay at seeing this particular post. An inability to set aside emotion when discussing an emotive topic such as this one will lead to making observations and accusations which are unjustified, personalised and, frankly, patronising, condescending and unacceptable. I believe a few apologies to some of the posters on this thread would be appropriate.
Perceptions of physical beauty, slimness and plus size differ not only from country to country, culture to culture but also from individual to individual. Research to justify any position taken by the posters can easily be found. Obesity does constitute a health risk, whether or not the obese person is able to do something about it or not. Appearance does matter when it comes to first impressions, as was clearly indicated on an earlier thread about beauty vs plainness influencing success, and individuals will have particular preferences that others find offensive, as for example, I find offensive that some will reject others on the basis of their skin colour. We are human, and therefore by definition fallible, and diverse in opinion.
Sensitivity to the OP, and indeed, to anyone who posts, should be shown. To indicate one's concern for someone who is plus-sized but to then in the same thread denigrate those who may or may not be addicted to various substances for whatever reasons (some of which may well be horrific traumatic experiences, I have no doubt) is contradictory to say the least. And, to imply, however indirectly, that CS members should be ashamed of being on this, or any other site, is again, insensitive to everyone on CS and uncalled for.
