I can follow You as I am in the middle of that myself in the moment And also one of the reasons that I want a new job. The other reason is that I work long and hard days, and hardly even get paid for it
No answers yet, so I`ll put in a little more thoughts about the issue.
From what I know in short, the term work was created from the christian monks in the middle age. They stated that people should work to keep them from "bad" thoughts (What thoughts haha)
At that time and forward the rich people did not work, it was`nt appropriate to do physical things, but they earned good money on the workers (tax).
Then came the industrial period, where even more people came to the work market, during the periods of wars in Europe this also included the women. After a period this gave life to feminist groups claiming equal rights and payment.
Education is the mantra for the youth - no education, no job.(What do You want to do when You grow up??) Leading to several suicides in Asia, a lot of pressure for even small children who has to pass several tests during elementary school.
Many years ago I guess a lot of working people were their own boss. I think of tailors, shoemakers, slaughters, farmers, bakers etc....
But today most people are employed in a company and left to luck whether their boss are "human" or not.
I know that several investigations has shown that even more that 10% of socalled leaders are psychopats. (I have personally bumped into a couple). Scaring facts. But when You sit in a jobinterview, it is not appropriate to ask about Your boss`temper - You will discover that later.
Like moving in with a guy You don`t know - weeks or months later You discover he is plane crazy
(Don`t worry, I know there are good leaders out there, have also met them, but bullying chiefs are not that uncommon)
Today we have a financial crisis. Every media states how difficult it is to find a job, so many people looses theirs everyday. In some companies the employees have to agree to go down in payment or they will get sacked.
Other companies outsource the labour to third world countries also in the name of the financial crisis.(And get rid of the "expensive" western workers.
And it seems those left with jobs simply are grateful and running twice as fast in order to catch up for their collegues missing...
The prices on food are increasing, people have less money - what a party for companyowners??
My question and thought in this: "Is work todays pressure and way to keep people in control?"
You can`t survive without money - laws and restrictions and property rules avoids almost anyone to grow their own food - get access to water..(Pay tax = a right to live in the actual society)
With this I do not mean we should go back in time - but who is really in charge here??
I am in a search for a new job these days. But I do not feel so excited about it, since I`ve had a lot of bad experiences during my worklife.
My story in short: I started in the "bottom" went to the "top" and now I am back in the "bottom" again and not really sure if I want to do the efforts to go "up" again.. But could sure need to be better paid... (It seems like all expenses are meant for 2 incomes - houserent, food etc.)
First of all I hate to get up in the morning, especially when it is dark and cold - I really have to struggle to get out of bed but succeed with it every day. I can`t work in the evening since I live alone with my daughter. But that is not what I think most about - I got used to it after being on the work market for 26 years now.
But I sometimes wonder in these days of free choices and individualism, where every advice is : "Follow Your heart" - well I would love to but where is my niche?? I have no clue in which direction to go - I have a lot of skills in language/communication/managing/coaching/administration but my education is technical. No paper --> no job :( And I am not able financially to have further education. (What a dream :) to learn and learn and learn)
I sometimes think about why people as employes volunteerly let other people decide everyday in 8-10 hours: When to go to the toilet - what clothes to wear - how to behave - what You do during the work hours. I mean am I getting something wrong here??
I`ve had several "bosses/managers" whose IQ level were obviously at lot lower than mine (which in those cases also was the reason I quit) who would`nt listen to advice - did`nt want any "new thoughts" - enjoyed making people feel small. I have to quit before I do something nasty to them so they should be grateful haha. Perhaps I am too proud to let myself be stepped on - but how do others manage that??
It seems that what You do for a living simply defines who You are!! How do You feel about Your job. Do You follow Your heart??
Do You enjoy spending so many hours doing something You haven`t chosen (except when You applied for the job)?
Godt at se dig igen... Jeg har også været gone and returned et par gange. Det er lidt træls at komme tilbage, men det betyder vel at man stadig er optimist ikke??
Håber du har det godt - mistede din mailadresse et eller andet sted along the road.
You can`t just sit around at home expecting someone to show up.
You have to go to places where You can meet people - but it is also possible via internet. But more complicated. Anyway still an option. But get to meet in person asap.
Moving to a (bigger) city I guess is the best thing to do.
What it says about me? - I guess it tells people that I am not materialistic - my values are more focused on things/issues that doesn`t cost anything - but to me they are far more important.
Oh - and I will of course also bring my beloved PC!!
Happy in Your job?
Good days - bad days but I can understand that You are reTIREDYou`ve been around USThumper!!!!
