I was (of course) following the COP meeting closely.
And I did`nt feel very calm seeing who holds our common future in their hands... (Or do they )
At least I just see the completely wrong people (except for those few who really wanted to make a positive change - they just never had a chance to be heard or state their point of views ) being those who have to decide how we deal with our climate problems in the future.
I am so surprised that they even not are able to think so far as the future for their own grandchildren
And it seems that all the discussions were only focusing on the CO2 emission problems, which is only a small part of a big dirty jigsaw puzzle IMO.
Do people care?? Some seem to do - but I`m afraid it is only because it is trendy in this moment.
I even saw a lot of people posting in the newspapers that they thought all this climatedebate was all up for nothing: "Look at the snow outside the windows"! "Who said climateproblems?"
No - I don`t think people are capable to see what is happening to our planet - and they don`t see the necessity in changing ways of lifestyle and thinking. In time it will not be a matter of choice anymore.
The ecosystems of our planet are so fragile, that even something is changed - just a tiny bit - and very far from where You/I live, it may cause huge effects all over the planet.
I can imagine a middleaged danish couple entering the supermarket to buy their usual coffee.
"What do You mean You don`t have any more coffee??" "But can`t they just buy it somewhere else?" "Now what do You expect us to drink then?!?" (Worst case will be the day when clean water is an expensive luxury, dedicated to the few!!)
Do I do something to change my lifestyle for a better climate?
In fact I do, though in the first place it was purely from financial reasons: I do not have a car And having lived without a car for about 2 years now - I discovered that it is possible, and I actually feel good about it
I hope Your mailaddress has`nt changed?? And that You still have mine?? A mail from time to time would`nt harm - and please let me know if You ever will visit DK!!
What I noticed first, was the description of surprise by those political Swiss parties who did`nt put up the suggestion. Some thinks that the result came out because of lack of openness in the integration discussion. One should also keep in mind, that extreme fundamentalism is not equal to minarets. The majority of the Swiss muslims are from Bosnia, an European part of the world - not even practising wahhabism (to mention one of the more "heavy" forms of islam)
Then I wondered why people would feel disturbed about the minarets??. Obviously they would only function as a symbol, since the Swiss "noise" laws does`n t allow the calling from the minarets. So they would only be beautiful silent slim towers, in other words just symbols.Which could underline the international atmosphere in Switzerland.
Christian churches also has towers, and a lot of people are disturbed from bellringing frequently.
And I was sorry to read - the yell of hoorraayy from the political rightwing in Denmark - we have our stillcontinued veildiscussion here, but at least a discussion. And still no minaretdiscussion, since we do not have any larger mosques here in Denmark... Yet....(2 are on the sketch plan)
My personal opinion is that minarets are beatiful - minarets in themselves cannot lead to any form of extremism. (Only if You ban them )
The store You tell me about - reminds me of 2 jobs I had after each other: The first job the manager had an heart attack 3 hours after I started on my first day Second job the manager was hospitalized the second day due to mental breakdown
Hi Pubwrite and thanks for Your tip. Yes I am definately better working for myself than being bossed around - so that could be an option I could consider
Exactly what happened to me in my last "good" job - the boss was sacked one month after I quit (But I had "waited" for 9 months and had reached my limit )
So great to hear about Your new job Irrh77
The way You describe it, makes Your joy shine through!!
So glad to hear that. Thats the best parts in my working life: no restraints and free hands to go Yeah - then You are rolling!! Its not a job anymore but more like a passion
Don`t see yourself as fortunate Jan - You`ve deserved it somewhere along the road
I am into "selfhelp" and in heavy progress - You are what You think/say.. It took some years but this is also why I get more and more able to see things in the big perspective
My little contribution to "change just a little bit in the world"
I think one of the reasons why You Polar and You bettyboop likes those jobs - is because there is a meaning in it.
In the supermarket where I work - everything is about the sale and the numbers on the bottomline. When we have many customers and earn a lot of money - I have to work harder - my boss is smiling cuz his bankaccount is growing. Mine is not :(
And i do not like to convince people to buy stuff they basically not need
