Astrology is a very complex subject. And you're right sunsign horoscopes are often of little use. A lot of newspaper predictions are based on sun and the prevailing moon interaction nd sometimes come close. The problem is the complexity, aspects to other planets at the time, cross referenced withyour own natal chart. Then there are progression charts. You could have been born Aquarius but through progression you move into pisces and then aries throughout your life.. Very complex and newspapers will not be precise.
For instance today, time depends on where u live on this amazing planet, the moon moves into Leo and some people will be considering changes in their hairdo's, cutting it, coloring it, maybe just combing or brushing it different. The hair salons are usually packed when the moon is in leo . Go figure, astro-coiffure. love is usually in the air as well, not the lusty love, but that 'thought' of true love. Again this might not happen for all if your own chart is unfavorable aspected to leo and ot the present sun placement.
