ok so I am the 'new boy' on the block and probably have a lot to learn about the forum culture in CS... I accept that...
but what I have difficulty with, is the amount of misogynistic comments directed at forum members... has it become so acceptable in today’s society, that one or two members can make rude, lewd and often degrading and derogatory comments to and about other women members?
sure there is the report button, but all that does is give someone in the back office a job…
do we name and shame? … most of the members who have been around the site for a few years, already know who these people are, and have their way of dealing with them… ignoring… not replying… banning them from their threads… all well and good, but I have wonder and ask, is that an acceptable way to talk to a woman? because if it is, then I’m out of here… not what I signed up for…
trust, honesty, respect, openness, communication, understanding and empathy to start with... but many a woman or man, myself included, have fallen at one of those steps at one time or another...
yes, it was the one and only time I actually came face to face, and I have not seen a craft since either, however, other 'events' have happened to me, but perhaps here is not the right place to chat about it though...
yes, I was driving East across the Nullabor Plain towards Eucla, Western Australia, in broad daylight, with no drugs or alcohol involved... about an hour out of Cocklebiddy, a craft landed about 200 meters to my right... as I looked the entire landscape started to turn white and then vanished, leaving me standing in a white void... then I saw 3 humanoid like beings walking towards me... 2 were tall about 180cm and had male features, the third was shorter and looked looked female... they stopped about 5 meters in front of me and then each spoke to me in turn, about my past, my present and my future... all in English...
the next thing, I was back in my car, driving along the highway... when In pulled into Eucla to fuel up, the attendant suggested I go sit down and have a drink, because I looked like I had seen a ghost... as I sat having a coffee and was writing the event down, I noticed that my watch was 30 min slow... when I went back to the car, and the clock on the dash was also 30 min slow, and I was 40 km light on the trip meter... it was like I had been standing still for 30 minutes, yet, transported forward by 40 km... I found out much later, that apparently, sighting along that part of the coast were and are still common...
I can say what they spoke about was accurate and eventuated... I know what I saw, I know what was said and I know it was real, but, and as I have no evidence to verify what happened, no one believes me... guess you get that...
have done booze since I was 21 and pizzas are a very very rare treat if you can call them that... but been shedding kilos at a very regular rate lately, not to fast mind you, that's not healthy... reckon I will be close to double figures by the end of the year...
messages are reasonably easy, don't reply and delete generally solves that problem... but the blogs and forums is another matter... its easy to block someone making comments you don't agree with, but then if you post, you should expect a percentage of negative replies or replies you don't like... debate is good if the proposition is worth debating...
however, someone takes over a thread and repeatedly making crass or rude comments, using inappropriate language or belittling you or other members, sometimes in the name of humour, is not acceptable... so In guess you bring that to there attention, and if it continues, block or report... not a nice ending either way...
have you seen the inside of a helicopter? all those dials and buttons, never mind the gauges and switches... press the wrong one and boom... kamikaze pilot...
not cheap back in the 60's and they are not cheap today... I saw one go for AU$12,000 at auction a year or so back, and it was in dire need of some TLC too...
prefer to meet face to face, rather than endless messages that get lost in translation, however, its not always possible to meet, in fact everyone I have interacted with on CS either lives outside Australia or several hours flight away... but friendships can develop over time, although it can be a strange community that inhabits 'cyber space'...
I used to have a leather fleece lined Bombers Jacket when I was in my teens, wore it when riding my motorbike, they were well sort after in the UK around the 60's...
