Hi Gini, My "religion" as I HAVE declared in these forums, is Methodist, however, after study with friends and my activities in the Peace movement I have "shifted" my "allegiance?" to support the philosophical "basics" of Buddhism. Which closely parallels Christian thought in as much as I can see, but takes a more "active" approach to Peace. Killing is never an option. Peaceful demonstrations etc.
My motivations as I HAVE stated here on many occasions stems from what I see is Israeli influence on the "foriegn policy" and "militarism" that MY NATIONS government has adopted. With "a minor" study in what I see as gross "apartheid" and "collective punishment" of a people. The Palestine. And further, this behavior is "tarnishing" the reputation of MY NATION.
Dear Heart, the dictionary defines "propaganda" ,....to spread information to further a cause,..
If you don't think Jesus, nor I, Pat, ttom, Gini, or ANYONE who posts their opinion is a propagandist then, well Ms , It's your choice what you believe and refuse to believe.JMO
Well ttommy, that is your take on the situation. Not mine. I DO see Israel "mucking up" the government of the United States and the vicious shooting in Arizona may be a personification of that frustration.JMO
ttommy ttommy ttommy, I'm not quite sure just what you tried to say there friend. The only part I did understand was "muck things up"? Why, can I ask, do my points always "muck things up"? ttom. Is it because my perspective doesn't jive with yours?
Israel declared independence on 14 May 1948 and neighboring Arab states invaded the next day. Since then, Israel has fought a series of wars with neighboring Arab states, and has occupied territories, including the West Bank, Sinai Peninsula, Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights, beyond those delineated in the 1949 Armistice Agreements. The border between Israel and the neighboring West Bank is not formally defined by the Israeli government, as a result of a complex and unresolved political situation. Israel has signed peace treaties with Egypt and Jordan, but efforts by elements within both parties to diplomatically solve the problem have so far only met with limited success.
Pat, my friend, you seem to have quite a caustic opinion on everything I post here, why is that?
The modern State of Israel was declared in 1948, and traces its historical and religious roots to the Biblical Land of Israel, also known as Zion, a concept central to Judaism since ancient times. Political Zionism took shape in the late-19th century Europe under Theodor Herzl, and the Balfour Declaration of 1917 formalized British policy preferring the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people. Following World War I, the League of Nations granted Great Britain the Mandate for Palestine, which included responsibility for securing "the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people". In November 1947, the United Nations voted in favor of the partition of Palestine, proposing the creation of a Jewish state, an Arab state, and a UN-administered Jerusalem. Partition was accepted by the Zionist leadership but rejected by Arab leaders, and a civil war began.
Israel (Listeni /'?zri?l/; Hebrew: ????????????, Yisra'el; Arabic: ????????????, ?Isra?il), officially the State of Israel (Hebrew: About this sound ???????? ?????????? (help·info), Medinat Yisra'el; Arabic: ??????? ????????????, Dawlat ?Isra?il), is a parliamentary republic in the Middle East located on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. It borders Lebanon in the north, Syria in the northeast, Jordan and the West Bank in the east, Egypt and the Gaza Strip on the southwest, and contains geographically diverse features within its relatively small area. Israel is the world's only Jewish-majority state, and is defined as "a Jewish and democratic state" by the Israeli government.
Following the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, Israeli law was enacted within the Green Line, as defined in the 1949 Armistice Agreements. Following their internationally unrecognized annexation in 1980–81, Israeli law was extended to East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, although most Arabs in these areas have declined Israeli citizenship. Citizens of the State of Israel also live in Israeli settlements in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. The population, defined by the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics to include all citizens and permanent residents in within Israel, the Golan Heights, East Jerusalem and all Israeli settlements, was estimated in May 2010 to be 7,602,400 people, of whom 5,776,500 are Jewish. Arab citizens of Israel form the country's second-largest ethnic group, which includes Muslims, Christians, Druze, and Samaritans. According to the May 2010 population estimate, including 300,000 non-citizen Arabs living in East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, this minority numbers 1,551,400.
"internationally unrecognized annexation in 1980–81, Israeli law was....."
As a geographic term, Palestine can refer to "ancient Palestine," an area that today includes Israel[not in citation given] and the Palestinian territories, as well as parts of Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. In classical or contemporary terms, it is also the common name for the area west of the Jordan River. The boundaries of two new states were laid down within the territory of the British Mandate, Palestine and Transjordan.[not in citation given][unreliable source?] Other terms for the same area include Canaan, Zion, the Land of Israel, and the Holy Land. Southern Levant is another purely geographic term, often implemented for the region, which doesn't have political or theologic implications. In current parlance Palestine refers to the portions of Greater Palestine remaining after Israel declared statehood, including those occupied in wars since that event.
Scholars disagree as to whether the archaeological evidence supports the biblical story of there having been a Kingdom of Israel of the United Monarchy that reigned from Jerusalem, as the archaeological evidence is both rare and disputed. For those who do interpret the archaeological evidence positively in this regard, it is thought to have ruled some time during Iron Age I (1200 - 1000 BC) over an area approximating modern-day Israel and the Palestinian territories, extending farther westward and northward to cover much (but not all) of the greater Land of Israel
Pat, This is a thread about Peace. Peace in Israel, Palestine, the middle east and ultimately ,..the world. You see my support for the "weaker" Palestine as "propaganda". "the spreading of information to further or damage a cause" ,..well Pat, I hope your sitting down for this,...
Your Right! I must be a "propagandist!" Because, yes! I am trying to "further" the "cause" of the oppressed Palestine!
Wew!(No, not Wow), glad we got that out of the way.
And there's nothing wrong with being a "propagandist" , is there?
Your one to Pat! And so is ttom. And Gini! We're all "propagandists"! Just a bunch of old and in the way "propagandists" is what we are!
But I'm going to do us both a favor and delve deeper in to the root causes of Palestine misery.
Palestine (Greek: ?a?a?st???, Palaistine; Latin: Palaestina; Hebrew: ????????? Eretz-Yisra'el, (formerly also ????????, Palestina); Arabic: ??????? Filas?in, Falas?in, Filis?in) is a conventional name used, among others, to describe a geographic region between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River, and various adjoining lands.
JERICHO, West Bank — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev gave a political boost to the Palestinians on Tuesday, backing their claim to east Jerusalem as a capital and their demand that Israel must freeze all settlement construction before peace talks can resume.
Beating children to death? Shooting men and women because they protest being shot? Am I missing something? Is Israel attempting to infiltrate my government? Yes. Should I just sit down and shut up about it?
Peace
