My understanding has always been that it was Eve having eaten from the tree of knowledge that got them banned.

I interpret that so that people are supposed to believe and not inquire too much. Remain dumb, believe and follow the rules, else you go to hell.

This is SO funny! Just yesterday I wanted to write a thread called "French Flies" because I noticed that the flies here are so much lazier and less buzzy, agile and sneaky than the ones in Germany and the US. These guys here just sit there and let you swat them... almost gives me a complex for being a fly killer

I think you have a point there.

I wouldn't agree exactly as you state it, but in principle there's something to it. If two people are in high-powered, demanding jobs then one tends to get out because otherwise they never see each other.
There has to be some compatability and common interest to develop a relationship and that is more likely to happen when you're in the same or a similar field.

I was in a situation like that. The way it works is that you choose one language per reference person. It's very difficult though if one parent speaks x, and the other kids speak x and the other parent is the only one who speaks y. The kid ultimately tends to be better at x.

If both parents only speak x and you live in y, then it's a toss. Some kids do well speaking y because of their friends and school, others don't.

No, there is no duty to do so, nor is there an obligation.

Usually one knows a bit more of the other's language and that tends to be the person to do the learning. It would make sense to learn the language of the country that you'll be living in though.

Taxing Churches and Non-Profits

If you invest your money in oil stocks and you sell them at a profit, that profit is taxed (capital gain).

If a church or a non-profit invests its money in oil stocks and sells them at a profit, they pay nothing.

When you do it, it's called a profit. Therefore it's taxed. When a non-profit makes a profit, then shouldn't that be taxed? Isn't it a misnomer to be a non-profit and profit?

I'm actually opposed to a lot of taxes, such as estate and interitance taxes, sin taxes, excise taxes and a few others and if I had any say at all, government would also have to be held accountable for where the money goes. No more "discretionary spending" for the President and all that nonsense. Alas, that's not the issue.

Really? ... I can't get over him privatizing health care. I guess on some level it was necessary to put a stop on the ridiculous charges that were submitted to insurance company, but what may have started out innocently has grown into a monster where we're now having the opposite effect.

See, when you want to sell a non-existent product (i.e. no pic), then you start out by building interest and hype. Again, you're already well on your way with this thread. I'll be watching with interest how you'll conduct the rest of the "campaign."
