If I was you I'd pay the rent, that is what a friend does. Pride is all very good when you can afford to have, when you can't you hope you have a friend like you.
Of course they should, and while they are at it, they can open the door for me, take my coat, pay the bill at the end of the date and try their luck on the way home......
