I am French Canadian, Irish grandmother on my father's side. My elder daughter; her mother is 3rd generation Irish Canadian. My grandson; Turkish/Armenian/ French/Irish. My younger daughter (2nd marriage) French/Anglo Saxon...3rd generation.

Most Canadians live within an hour from the U.S., border, yet two countries could not be more different. Europeans can relate to this sentence, Americans can't. I can go to any doctor or hospital in Canada for any reason including a heart transplant, my cost, $0.000.
As it is in France, England, Australia, Belgium etc. Health care is free, yet Americans see it as socialism. If that is the case, why are Canadians doing so well compared to the U.S. Two days ago one Canadian dollar is worth $1.05 US. Call us socialists if you please, but our standard of living and our life-span exceeds yours. I don't mean this as an Us & Them post, simply a reflection on our heritage and it's time for Americans to look outward. You are not the centre of the free world.
I was brought up in Montreal, moved to Vancouver on the west coast. I now live near Toronto, 5 million people. Do I lock my doors ? No. Could I legally carry a gun ? It would likely take me 5 years to get permission. Do I need a gun ? No.
If guns make America safe, then America should be the safest country on earth.
I am not dissing the US., it's just a matter of heritage. Canada was born of 2 heritages, England and France. We chose to follow that heritage which didn't include guns.
Yes Canada owns a lot of hunting rifles, but most murders are by knife and from domestic disputes.
The USA has become prisoners of their own design....Congress is discussing carrying guns after the Arizona tragedy, as if that will make a difference. What, a shoot-out in the streets of America between domestic and foreign enemies ? The 2nd Amendment was born in 1791 out of a real need. How do you reverse it ? You can't.
I like Ron Paul. He's a realist, but it's too late. The U.S., is printing money like 1937 Germany. Trillions owed to China and chaos within the country....like Palin still living in the 60's. It's a new world and a new world power.

Congress woman, Gabrielle Giffords and 19 others were shot by Jared Laughner, who they say is mentaly disturbed. Well, in a country of gun-lovers, 310 million, 10% are considered to have mental problems. That's over 30 million disturbed people who have easy access to guns.
Fact; In Arizona, state Senator Karen S. Johnson, has sponsored a bill, which the Senate Judiciary Committee approved last week, that would allow people with a concealed weapons permit, limited to those 21 and older here, to carry their firearms at public colleges and universities.

OK, Star', journey with me now to a sea-side cafe at sunset, good food and better wine. Coffee and Brandy, then a walk along the beach. We stop, hold each other very close.
