I grew up on some very mean streets in Montreal. I lost 3 friends to violence by the time I was 19. Guns were a non issue in Canada at that time. If Canada had followed the U.S., paradigm, I'd have lost all of my friends.
In an earlier post, I promised no more political threads, so a bed-time story instead.
Old Abdul's Farm.
There was an old farmer in an Eastern country who's animals were out of control. They were eating out of each others food troughs, stealing and biting each other. So Abdul asked a farmer from a Western country to send over some of his animals to teach his how to act properly. The western farmer sent over his best animals. However, pretty soon the Western animals realized that their best efforts were futile, every time they turned their backs, they were bitten and kicked by Abdul's stock. This went on for years and many of the Western animals died or were wounded from bites and improvising road-side chickens pecking out their eyes. Meanwhile the Western farmer was going broke having to send food over to help feed his animals and some of Abdul's.
Eventually the Western farmer brought home what was left of his fine animals, some were missing legs, tails etc. Abdul's farm continued to get by despite the chaos.
Unfortunately, the Western farmer not caring as much as he should for his animals, started looking for another chaotic farm to straighten out.
"You can force a horse to water, and you can make him drink, but he'll still kick you". (Paws)
Can't help it. Just one more, ''Sarah Palin was delivering a speech and she said 'refudiate.' It's not a word -- you have refute and repudiate, and she combined them. A lot of times that will happen and people will confuse combinations of words. I remember a couple years ago John McCain mistakenly combined the words Vice President and Palin.''
America and Europe are in a financial dive which affects most of us here. Are you going to stimulate the big banks by overspending this Xmas and maxing out your Visa/MC ?
A few tips; put a ceiling on giving, as in $20.00 per gift. Bake fruit cakes etc., as a gift, or make a mixed CD.
Another strategy for large extended families is to have each relative only buy gifts for family members under 18.
Books make a great gift and are usually under $20.00.
Re-gift, we all have something left over from last Xmas that we don't use.
My younger daughter is saving to pay off student loans etc. She offered to cook or bake anything I'd like for Xmas as a present. Great idea. I opted for her delicious muffin tops, yes, she makes the best muffin tops, about 8" in diameter, apple and cranberry.
A lot more men than you'd think are just as particular about their hair as women. I for one shudder when I have to find a new hair-cutter. I moved recently, but have been traveling 28 miles to go back to my trusted hair cutter.
Yesterday I took a chance on a cutter a few doors from me. ALRIGHT ! She did a great job. There's nothing worse than trying a new barber or stylist. You sit in the chair, tell them what you want, then watch as they make you look like your half-way through chemo, or you paid a 6 year old 25 cents to cut your hair.
Other than clothes, our hair is the only thing that can make a visual statement.
China has too much to lose by allowing N Korea to start a war, China and N Korea share a border. China is also economically tied to the West. China can't afford to lose even one day's pay. The entire world is against N Korea, which makes no difference to a mad man....so who knows what will happen next.
Remember, China shares a border with N Korea, Japan is only 120 miles away. If nukes become a real threat, both China and Japan will not stand by and watch radiation cover their country. A strategic hit of some sort may be at hand.
Throughout my marriage I consulted with my wife over every aspect of our lives, only to find out many years later that she wanted to be controlled more.
Another Palin classic. North is not South.
I am a dollar short, but a day late is relative.
