welcome to CS, I also have a sleeping disorder because of working the graveyard shift year round. There are alot of wonderful people here & I think you will enjoy it alot.
You can refuse and hand it to the next person in line. To me material things dont mean all that much. I dont mind a picture of them and maybe a special nick-nack they favored...but Parents aleways seem to do that. They are always worried about their children. I agree, they should enjoy their money etc.. God knows they worked hard enough for their gain..
Heck it's xmas...the more the merrier. Welcome them. You all might end up having a blast. And just explain later to the person who brought them that the next time you would like notice ahead. But it's xmas and rude to not let them in..
You be honest & tell the person it's not what you wanted or can use & if it's ok to give it to someone who can use it or if they know who can use it or if they would like it back to keep for themself. Thats what I would do. Just a thought. Because if the person that gave it dosent see it out or see you use it they will wonder why anyway. So just be up front. Best way to go. And have a Happy New year to come.
I am cooking a huge turkey & mashed potatoes , gravy, cranberry sauce "the smooth", carrots, green string beans, and for after the meal a birthday cake is made & hungarian walnut & poppyseed cake & ginger bread cookies & iced sugar cookies..for new years I cook a big roast & just have a help yourself type of meal with paper plates "no work. LOL
