I couldn't decide whether it was worth writing this blog or not, according to one comment made to me today I may not live long enough to finish, so if I croak before the end no flowers please, they look so much better in the garden.
Well in my time here I've been accused of many things, being in a gang, a sort of geriatric hit squad, making comments on blogs I didn't read let alone comment on, but today takes the biscuit, now I'm supposed to be a bigamist with wives all over the Philippines
this came a quite a shock I can tell you, having never been there, never joined a site to meet anyone from there, never as I recall even received a mail from a scammer even claiming to be from there, I'd be hard pressed to find it on a map let alone be bothered with running a harem there
where do these people get these ideas, are the worlds health organisations in meltdown to point where lunatics are running the asylum
Oh well all part of the rich tapestry of life on CS I suppose
We learned today of a disaster about to happen the scale of which might make all that have gone before seem trivial, I've been poo-pooing the 21\12\12 theory but it seems for Andalusia, Spain it may be about to come true. A couple of weeks ago we lost some of the British TV channels, it turns out we about to loose them all, this may seem a small matter but let me explain. The economy of southern Spain is pinned up by tourism, this is largely British as it's the UK's most popular holiday destination, there is also a large contingent of British expats living here, a large part of this industry is due to British TV being available here, take this away & the trade will move north where TV will still be available. This all comes about due a new satellite which is going to replace the existing one which has reached the end of it's life (12 to 15 years), the beams on the new sat are much tighter than the old one therefore Andalusia will loose it's signal altogether. As I see it there is not a business here that will not be affected, even animals, some of whom rely on being feed by the Brits will suffer as there is a migration north. The whole British satellite industry could be wiped out over night, property values, already in serious trouble could fall through the floor, will airports & tourist attractions be able to cope? Property owners advertising rental property to tourists with British TV will have taken bookings but be unable to provide the service etc etc. Unless a solution is found & soon in my opinion this will lead to a disaster.
I have been in many places, but I've never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone.
I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there.
I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to CS, friends, family and work.
I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore.
I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often.
I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm.
Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there more often as I'm getting older.
One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get! But more often than not I just hang around CS blogs as it's the best exercise a brain can get.
From a FB post.
On 18 September 2014 Scotland decides whether to become independent from the rest of United Kingdom & indeed whether to make it the Ununited Kingdom, I'm somewhat miffed as a non Scot that I won't to get to vote on this issue, which as a UK taxpayer I feel I should, anyway here are 2 pictorial sites to help us make up our mind which way we would vote if given the chance, the first is from an outsiders point of view & contains scenes some viewers may find disturbing
(An example picture)
And in the interests of impartiality here is the Scots point of view
Well it's been about 9 months since we had any real rain, a shower about a week ago had been our lot, until today
3.30 am it started & we got the backlog all at once
I got up this morning & found due to the thick cloud & rain their was no electricity, started the generator which promptly developed a fault so then had to change it for the spare getting very wet in the process, finally got the house up & running so went to check mail, no internet, well on & off, turns out someone in my network decided as we'd not seen rain in 9 months it would be a good idea to put their inside fairy lights on a tree outside, shorting out the entire network
he's an electrician as well
At this point I would normally have gone back to bed to hibernate for the day but being Christmas day & due to be having lunch with my neighbours this wasn't an option
My neighbours, both profession chefs in a previous existence, laid on a fabulous lunch for 9 of us & 6 hours later I don't think I'll have to eat (or drink) again till new year
I think my trousers must have shrunk in rain because they fitted this morning
Hope you've had as great a day as I have
Whilst posting a new profile picture I noticed that the old one had accumulated 11 comments
I haven't checked for comments in over a year so it was a pleasant surprise to see I had some
but what was really amazing was the incredible coincidence that they all have the same profile name
I didn't even know you could have more than one member with the same name but for some reason "Profile Deleted" seems to be a really popular name
I think having so many members with this name could present problems
but I see from the problem solving chart that there's nothing to worry about
With Microsoft pulling the plug on Windows XP on April 8th it might be time to start thinking about updating, I've been using XP so long I can't even remember when it first came out, but at the time it was such a pleasure to have an OS that didn't crash every 5 minutes which most of the previous versions had a habit of doing, I'd be interested in hearing others experiences on the later versions of Windows as I've read so many mixed reports, mostly written by computer geeks in that language only they understand, being an English speaker in Spain I have to decide well in advance as getting an English copy of Windows here is not that easy, much simpler to get someone to bring a disc from the UK which of course takes time to organise, alternatively I could just carry on using XP without the backup of security updates & hope Norton can hold the hackers at bay.
With the holidays upon us I would like to share a personal
experience with my friends & fellow bloggers about drinking and driving.
As you may know some of us have been known to have brushes with
the authorities from time to time on the way home after a "social
session" out with friends.
Well, three days ago I was out for an evening with friends and
had several beers, followed by some rather nice red wine.
Feeling jolly I still had the sense to know that I may be over the
limit. That's when I did something that I've never done before ..
I took a cab home! Sure enough on the way home there was a
police road block, but since it was a cab they waved it past.
I arrived home safely without incident.
This was a real relief and surprise because I had never driven a cab before.
I don't even know where I got it, and now that it's in my garage I'm unsure quite what to do with it.
