Bruce Parry's "Arctic" (tv series)

What an amazing series this has been! Bruce Parry's boundless enthusiasm for everything he does and his unassuming presence whilst staying with the native peoples of this area made for engaging tv. The sheer beauty of the Arctic was breathtaking, the lives of these people fascinating, and yet at the same time the damage we are doing to such a fragile environment is so troubling.

"The Arctic is on the point of enormous change. The sea ice is melting, fresh boundaries are being drawn in this the most disputed territory on Earth. For the people who live here, the inescapable advance of modern life presents both opportunity, and challenge.

In 2010, over the course of a bright Arctic summer, Bruce immersed himself in the pattern of existence for the people living in the Far North. From the Inuit of Greenland to Alaskan whalers and treasure-hunters, Canadian oil-men and scientists on Svalbard, and bands of reindeer herders in the remote valleys of Siberia and the hills of northern Norway, Bruce encountered first-hand the threats to culture, landscape and wildlife that are being felt there. Using his personal diaries that he kept throughout this epic journey, Bruce tells his story in Arctic".

The Chris Isaak Show

One of my favourite shows applause applause applause

Watched one of the funniest episodes of the lot last night...called "Home Improvement" (season 3, episode 4).

Brian McKnight was guess-starring. After hearing about Brian McKnight's luxurious home, Chris feels pressured by the band to improve his homely house and decides to install a state-of-the-art steam room. He soon comes to regret the decision when the project begins to take on a life of its own roll eyes doh laugh Meanwhile, Yola (his manager) and Cody have very different reactions when the office receives a gift of designer brownies from Mike, the long-haired drummer from local band, Cannabis Nation rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing Anson (Chris' keyboard's player), frustrated that his credit card has been cancelled, decides to launch his own website, Ansoncam.com, as a means of making some extra cash. After outfitting his entire apartment with mini cameras, he learns (to his dismay) that he's attracted a very devoted, yet captive, audience! uh oh uh oh rolling on the floor laughing

The Day of the Chaffinches!!.....

Well, I don't know if anyone else did the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch?
I only just managed to fit it in on day 3 of a migraine roll eyes doh

To be honest with you, it wasn't the greatest of days for birdwatching in the garden. It was dull and overcast all day, and there never seem to be many birds in the garden on days like that My theory is that the garden birds can't see predators as well on dull days like that, when there are low light levels (there is a resident sparrowhawk around here somewhere).

So, here are the results for 1 hour's birdwatching in a Perthshire garden on 30th January (remember these figures are the maximum amount of species seen at any one time)

Blackbird: 4
Greenfinch: 1
Robin: 1
Blue tit: 1
Dunnock: 1
House sparrow: 4
Starling: 8
Chaffinch: 14
Goldfinch: 2
Great tit: 1
Great spotted woodpecker: 1

the Chaffinches really outdid themselves!!! applause applause applause laugh

Feel all "cool" now! Watched the new Tom Cruise film yesterday, "Knight and Day" and realised that I currently have the same ringtone on my phone as Tom Cruise's character had on his phone cool cool grin laugh

Great film though...I really enjoyed it, and I don't care that he's not flavour of the month any more...Tom Cruise still gets my vote!! love love laugh

Nearly had a nasty accident tonight! I was in the kitchen washing up, cooking my dinner and having a boogie to the music, when I opened the oven door to take out a boiling hot tray. My hand got within 2" of the tray, when I realised that I had rubber Marigolds on, and not my fireproof oven gloves!!!!!! uh oh Which just goes to show...that I CAN multi-task....

but not very well!!! doh laugh

Washing Up Music tonight:

"OLD TIME ROCK ROLL" BY BOB SEGER

Altogether now!!!!! ....

Just take those old records off the shelf
I'll sit and listen to 'em by m'self
Today's music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock and roll

Don't try to take me to a Disco
You'll never even get me out on the floor
In 10 minutes I'll be late for the door
I like that old time rock and roll

(Chorus) Still like that old time rock and roll
The kinda music just soothes the soul
I reminisce about the days of old
With that old time rock and roll

Won't go to hear 'em play a Tango
I'd rather hear some blues or funky old soul
There's only one sure way to get me to go
Start playin' old time rock and roll

Call me a relic call me what'cha will
Say I'm old fashioned say I'm over the hill
Today's music ain't got the same soul
I like that old time rock and roll

dancing dancing dancing
