Phew! Have just finished making mum's home made Mother's Day present! I love my mum to bits, but she is in a nursing home 500 miles away, so I have to send her presents through the post. Sent a big scrapbook and glue about a year ago, and ever since then have been saving cuttings out of the paper, magazines etc for her to glue into it. Always print off loads of photos and funny things that friends have sent via e-mail. My printer doesn't print it's colours properly so it takes an age getting them to print out correctly!
Also in her parcel this year:
- a special "speaker-phone" that she can put right next to her chair and press one button to get through to me!
- my bible that I got when I was 22 years old
- a book all about the rural Post-Buses in Scotland (trust me, it's more interesting than it sounds! - we used to use them during our adventures when she used to come and visit me in far flung places!)
- Nairns Stem Ginger Oatcakes
- Mini bags of Maltesers
- Lindt Lindor Chocolates
- Curly Wurlies
- a packet of those old fashioned crisps with the separate salt packet
For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to see the Aurora Borealis!! Despite living in Scotland for the past 20 years, I have never been lucky enough to see it. About 4 years ago I registered with a website called AuroraWatch as they send you an alert e-mail if the conditions are right in your area.
My first e-mail alert from them was back in February, but the sky here was completely covered in thick cloud so despite wandering around my very dark garden, tripping over bird baths and flowerpots, I didn't see anything.
However!!.... have had an alert e-mail from them for 3 days running now, so will be out again tonight with my gaze turned to the heavens. Went out the past couple of nights and managed to not trip over anything other than walking into the wheelie bin, but didn't see anything, as again, the sky was thick with cloud. Am getting a bit excieted now, as it is quite a nice day today and the wind is blowing the clouds around, so I may be in with a chance of seeing this amazing spectacle!
Haven't been on here for four months (life has kind of been getting in the way ) so just thought I'd come on this evening and post a quiz for ya' all.....
Well, actually not really for you ya' all....it's more for any Chris Isaak fans out there!
His new album is released tomorrow so I am celebrating early!! Have my delux version on order from the States so it may take a while to get here.
In the meantime, if you're a fan like me, why not have a go!
Used to be a huge Clint Black fan...don't know why I kinda' stopped listening to his music really!
He's on just now 7-8pm Radio 2 "Bob Harris Country". Although I love country music, I never listen to Bob Harris's program..... Maybe I should start!! I only have an anologue radio so have come upsstairs to listen to it on the internet...much nicer sound!
I know nobody will comment on this, as I seem to be the only Brit on CS who likes country music! I am a country girl myself and grew up in the middle of nowhere, so I suppose it's in my blood!
I know there are a few Chris Isaak fans on here so I thought I would just let you know that Chris is in the uk, promoting his new album "Beyond The Sun". Doesn't look like he is doing any concerts anywhere though.
Tv & Radio Programs:
"Something for the Weekend" on BBC2. Sunday 22nd January at 10am. Sorry, I know this one has already gone by but you should be able to watch it on iplayer.
He told a great story about a famous car museum in Los Angeles , who had contacted him to ask him if he would like to put his car on show there for an exibition called "Cars & Guitars of Rock n' Roll". He said yes, he'd love to. (He has an old 1964 Chevy Nova) Only trouble was, he only has that one car to get around in!! Very rock n' roll!!! So...I am just imagining that Chris rode his bicyle around for the next several months!!
I like independent films and French Parisian music, but this week the culture went right out of the window as I thoroughly enjoyed watching "Paul"...the latest Simon Pegg film, about two sci-fi nerds from the uk who take a road trip across America with the intention of visiting all the UFO related sites. They do not however, bank on picking up a real alien called Paul who is on the run from the Men in Black!!! Great fun!
And this weekend lovefilm.com sent me the kid's animation "Surf's Up"..... loved it!! In another life, I would definitely love to be a surfer!!
This very cultured and high brow weekend was also enhanced by a very rare ironing session , accompanied by the sounds of my new (well.....2nd hand e-bay) Michael Jackson cd!! It's really hard to do the ironing when you just want to get down and boogie!! I have loved MJ's songs since I was a kid, but although I have a couple of tunes on my mobile (which I use as an ipod )) I have never had a cd. As with all pop music, I think I am very definitely stuck in the 80's, and this "Greatest Hits" album has all my favourites on it.... Billie Jean, The Way You Make Me Feel, Black or White etc
I don't have one of the "Wii" thingies, but I am now a little jealous because it would be so cool (no other word for it...sorry!) to learn some of MJ's dances!!
PS. I haven't yet gone Go Karting (well, not since I was 10!), but do have Tesco's vouchers for hawk handling, haven't ridden a horse for about 20 years and as yet I still haven't done any dog sledding, but everything else is right....Well, except the 57Chevy Bel Air crusin' (that's just day dreaming!! )
You know, for as long as I can remember, I have always had certain animals and birds that have been my favourites....many of them I will probably never ever get to see, but have a love and a fascination for them anyway. It's an odd thing really, but I have always been fascinated by many of the animals that generally live in Canada..... Moose, Beaver, Bear and Wolf. I have never seen any of these critters, and can't explain why they are my favourites! The strange thing is....all these animals lived in Scotland 100's or even 1000's of years ago!
The controversial plans of the laird of the Alladale estate, right up in the north of Scotland, wants to bring back some of the animals that roamed wild in Scotland all those years ago. He has introduced wild boar, and in 2007 he flew over two moose (European Elk) from Sweden. The female moose has just given birth to the cutest little moose-baby you ever did see!!! So near, yet so far!!!!
In May 2009 the first beaver families were released in Knapdale, Argyll, as part of a five-year trial reintroduction, although previously captive beavers have been living in and around the River Tay and it’s tributaries for around 10 years now! I live in this region, but have sadly, never seen one.
The seasonal wildlife program "Springwatch" has been featuring live footage of the beavers in Knapdale, and I have been glued to the tv every night, watching them doing their stuff….building dams, felling trees, and generally keeping themselves busy, as only a beaver knows how
I have had the privilege of seeing a lot of beautiful, wild and elusive animals and birds in my life, so my hope is, that one of these days I will be able to marvel at a moose, wonder at a wolf, be beguiled at a beaver or be blown away by the site of a bear! … Ever the optimist!!
