(CNN)With a first-of-its-kind antiviral pill against Covid-19 potentially headed towards distribution, the health care community may soon have another tool to combat a virus that has claimed the lives of more than 700,000 Americans.
Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics created an antiviral pill the companies say can reduce risk of Covid-19 hospitalization and death by 50%, and Merck said it will seek emergency use authorization from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its molnupiravir medication "as soon as possible."
"We'll be able to prescribe this to folks. They'll take a five-day course and hopefully be able to stay home, not come in for an intravenous infusion and keep folks out of the hospital. So, it's really very promising news," Dr. Jonathan Reiner, CNN medical analyst and professor of medicine and surgery at George Washington University, told CNN's Pamela Brown Saturday.
But the best strategy for fighting the pandemic -- full immunization -- is still hampered due to resistance, Reiner noted, and a substantial number of Americans have died since late February, when vaccine access expanded.
"We've lost 700,000 Americans now and fully 200,000 of those folks have died since vaccines have been available almost to everyone in this country, and every one of those deaths is unnecessary," he said. "So even though the news is great for this antiviral agent, really the message that people need to receive is 'get vaccinated.' No one needs to die from this virus."
As progress slowly moves forward nationwide with the rate of inoculations, tens of millions of unvaccinated Americans remain at higher risk for Covid-19.
Nearly 56% of the total US population, or 65.4% of those ages 12 and up who are eligible, are fully vaccinated, according to data published Sunday by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
However, fifteen states have yet to fully vaccinate more than half of their residents, according to CDC data: Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wyoming.
While much of the focus from health experts and officials remains on new inoculations that will help lower hospitalization rates, booster shots for some people previously fully vaccinated with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine are gaining traction, with about 5.3 million people who have received an additional dose -- or booster -- since August 13, CDC data shows.
People ages 65 and older, people at high risk of severe disease and people whose jobs put them at risk of infection may get an additional dose.
Appearing on ABC's "This Week" Sunday morning, Dr. Anthony Fauci addressed people who remain hesitant about the vaccines, believing they are too new, saying, "This vaccine has been given to hundreds of millions of people ... throughout the world, so although it is 'new,' there is a lot of experience with this vaccine."
"It's within our capability to make sure that that turnaround we're seeing ... continues to go down," he said of the country finally turning a corner in the pandemic. "We can do that, really, by getting vaccinated."
While the Delta variant has contributed to more Covid-19 infections in children compared to earlier in the pandemic, recent studies show certain mitigation measures are still effective tools in lowering infections -- underscoring the importance of these strategies while children under the age of 12 remain ineligible to receive a Covid-19 vaccine.

Wuhan scientists planned to release coronaviruses into cave bats 18 months before outbreak
Recall how, in early 2020, Fauci was acting bewildered about the source of the Wuhan Virus, surmising that it jumped from bats to humans. Previously, via email leaks and other sources, we found that he'd been funding and collaborating with the Communist Chinese BioWeapon scientists for years, and filing patents for both the modified virus and faux vax as early as 1999.
Now, new documents make it even worse:
“These viruses have a fatality rate over 30 per cent, which is at least an order of magnitude more deadly than Covid-19. If one of their receptor replacements made MERS spread similarly, while maintaining its lethality, this pandemic would have been nearly apocalyptic.”
Wuhan scientists were planning to release enhanced airborne coronaviruses into Chinese bat populations to inoculate them against diseases that could jump to humans, newly leaked grant proposals show.
New documents show that just 18 months before the first Covid-19 cases appeared, researchers led by Peter Daszak had submitted plans to release skin-penetrating nanoparticles containing “novel chimeric spike proteins” of bat coronaviruses into cave bats in Yunnan, China.
They also planned to create chimeric viruses, genetically enhanced to infect humans more easily, and requested $14 million from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency DARPA to fund the work.
They were hoping to introduce “human-specific cleavage sites” to bat coronaviruses which would make it easier for the virus to enter human cells.
When Covid-19 was first genetically sequenced, scientists were puzzled about how the virus had evolved such a human-specific adaptation at the cleavage site on the spike protein, which is the reason it is so infectious.
The documents were released by Drastic, the web-based investigations team set up by scientists from across the world to look into the origins of Covid-19.
In a statement, Drastic said: “Given that we find in this proposal a discussion of the planned introduction of human-specific cleavage sites, a review by the wider scientific community of the plausibility of artificial Covid insertion is warranted.”
The proposal included plans to mix high-risk natural coronavirus strains with more infectious varieties.
The bid was submitted by British zoologist Peter Daszak of EcoHealth Alliance, who has worked closely with the Wuhan Institute of Virology researching bat coronaviruses.
Team members included Dr Shi Zhengli, the WIV researcher dubbed ‘bat woman’ as well as researchers from the University of North Carolina and the United States Geological Survey National Wildlife Centre.

How the CDC Is Covering Up Breakthrough Cases
The main tool used by government to establish Covid in a person has been the PCR test. Essentially take a swab biosample from the subject and amplify what was taken by various cycles of amplification. Each time it is amplified it's called a Cycle Threshhold.
The medical researcher who invented the process roundly condemned Fauci for misusing the process as a test, and especially so when the direction to tested was to massively amplify the test results by using way more CTs than should ever have been used.
Moreover, the HHS and CDC have admitted that they haven't isolated the Covid-19 virus into a form that isn't mixed in with human or animal components. Without an "isolate" for a search comparison, what are they testing?
It's as valid as witchcraft tests from Salem.
This Plandemic has been war-gamed out for what recent documents show for decades, not just years or months (see: EVENT 201, staged just a few months before the outbreak), and the patent application and research funding, both of Covid as a potential BioWeapon, and it's mRNA treatment, go back years as well.
Now that the "emergency" measures used to justify mail in voting (greatly facilitating vote fraud) have worked, and populist president and China Challenger Donald Trump has been removed, the vastly-overcounted Covid case rate, by virtue of extraordinarily high PCR CT's, has been reversed.
The PCR CT's are now much, much lower and especially post-Jab "breakthrough" cases are being ignored. The follow up of how the experimental Jab is affecting the injected, required by the terms of the Emergency Use Authorization, isn't being done. Now, tracking of injuries or death resulting from the Jab have been changed overnight, post election, to undercount or completely ignore deaths or injuries caused by the Jab.
January 20, 2021, the day of Joe Biden’s inauguration as the 46th president of the United States, the WHO suddenly lowered the recommended CT,10 thereby guaranteeing that the number of “cases,” i.e., positive PCR test results, would plummet.
Now, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has lowered the CT even further, in what appears to be a clear effort to hide COVID-19 breakthrough cases.
How the CDC Is Covering Up Breakthrough Cases
As part of its COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough case investigation, the CDC has issued guidelines11for public health, clinical and reference laboratories on how to test and diagnose cases where fully vaccinated individuals are suspected of having contracted COVID-19. In those guidelines, it specifies using a CT value of 28 or less.
So, in other words, while healthy people have, for the past year, been misdiagnosed as having COVID-19 when they really didn’t because the CT was set to 40 or 45, they’re now trying to minimize the recorded number of breakthrough cases by using a CT that will minimize false positives.12
Had a CT of 28 been used all along, we would have had nowhere near the number of “cases” currently touted and the pandemic would have been over sometime in 2020.
The Biden regime, having stolen the election in the first known presidential coup in American history, has been lying to us. They've seized upon a highly-politicized medical situation to seize power and sweep aside Constitutional limits on local, state and even presidential authority.
The Biden handlers do not have our best interests in mind. And that, my friends, is a great understatement.

This Plandemic has been war-gamed out for what recent documents show for decades, not just years or months (see: EVENT 201, staged just a few months before the outbreak), and the patent application and research funding, both of Covid as a potential BioWeapon, and it's mRNA treatment, go back years as well.
Now that the "emergency" measures used to justify mail in voting (greatly facilitating vote fraud) have worked, and populist president and China Challenger Donald Trump has been removed, the vastly-overcounted Covid case rate, by virtue of extraordinarily high PCR CT's, has been reversed.
The PCR CT's are now much, much lower and especially post-Jab "breakthrough" cases are being ignored. The follow up of how the experimental Jab is affecting the injected, required by the terms of the Emergency Use Authorization, isn't being done. Now, tracking of injuries or death resulting from the Jab have been changed overnight, post election, to undercount or completely ignore deaths or injuries caused by the Jab.
January 20, 2021, the day of Joe Biden’s inauguration as the 46th president of the United States, the WHO suddenly lowered the recommended CT,10 thereby guaranteeing that the number of “cases,” i.e., positive PCR test results, would plummet.
Now, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has lowered the CT even further, in what appears to be a clear effort to hide COVID-19 breakthrough cases.
How the CDC Is Covering Up Breakthrough Cases
As part of its COVID-19 vaccine breakthrough case investigation, the CDC has issued guidelines11for public health, clinical and reference laboratories on how to test and diagnose cases where fully vaccinated individuals are suspected of having contracted COVID-19. In those guidelines, it specifies using a CT value of 28 or less.
So, in other words, while healthy people have, for the past year, been misdiagnosed as having COVID-19 when they really didn’t because the CT was set to 40 or 45, they’re now trying to minimize the recorded number of breakthrough cases by using a CT that will minimize false positives.12
Had a CT of 28 been used all along, we would have had nowhere near the number of “cases” currently touted and the pandemic would have been over sometime in 2020.
The Biden regime, having stolen the election in the first known presidential coup in American history, has been lying to us. They've seized upon a highly-politicized medical situation to seize power and sweep aside Constitutional limits on local, state and even presidential authority.

This receptor allows the virus to replicate in sinus tissues but not to a variety of other tissues. The influenza virus attaches to cells via sialic acid receptors, (...) HIV uses the CD4 receptor residing on Lymphocytes.
