RETURN OF YESTERDAY

Embedded image from another site

Yesterday you were a memory in time
Today time appeared to stand still
While with an odor – sound – sight you were here
Thus yesterday again became very real

Feelings and visions tugged at my heart
Thus bringing grief to the front
Overpowering waves of memory rising
Sweeping my emotions with the tide

Riding the rolling waves to shore
Arriving there all battered and bruised
Surviving once again the waves of grief
Memories pushed back to yesterday again

Well - this poem could really relate to what is going on right now in the world. Many are losing loved ones to the COVID-19! Prayers for all dealing with this Monster Virus worldwide. A little revision today 3/13/20 After 11 1/2 years passing of my Mom - grief can still catch me at times unexpectedly.

Broken pieces

Long ago
I Fell In love with you
Never did I think
You would leave me
My heart is bruised and broken
Everyone says get over you
And Move on
I've tried
these tired feet don't want to walk the street
My hands hurt from praying
My hearts broken
My mind has never been the same
I've tried to recreate our love
It will never be
You're gone forever
God please help me
pick up these broken pieces
And Put my life back together

Dad Died Yesterday

You trapped and scared a buck by slapping your oar on the water
You fell out of a tree while using a monkey vine that couldn't support your weight
You took 3 hours to cut out a log I backed over while we got wood for heat
I dented your truck(sold to someone who still uses it here in town) before fishing
You gave me your left over steak you got at Friedman's
You gave me my first car, a 79 Chevette
You hunted ginseng and morel hunted
You fished for catfish with trotlines
You cut down trees and didn't get hit by them
You drove semis at a pig slaughterhouse that is now an open field in Dubuque
You raised four children and had grandchildren living with you from time to time
You helped me get aluminum cans where I made 400 bucks one summer
You are missed

The Journey

I get in my car,
And drive to the hospital,
Our mortality plagues us.
Treatment and cure,
Optimism and hope,
The mind is willing,
But the body is susceptible,
To those destined blows….
A bit like the black knight,
In the “Search for the Holy Grail,”
His arms and legs severed,
But an infatigable belief in self.

I drive past the house,
Where we made passionate love,
I can recall all those senses.
Like all things it didn’t last,
But I knew I was alive.
Such a tenuous bond,
Such a capricious journey,
Of stops and starts.

We never know where things will lead us,
And rationality only rears its head,
In hindsight.
You can’t help thinking of those close moments,
That float in the wind like Autumn leaves,
Only to wither away in the dust,
And beauty dies,
And life moves on as darkness beckons.

No more speaking,
A broken fingernail clawing the balcony,
Where Juliet once stood,
Why such complex creatures?
This is our gift and our despair,
The poetry anaesthetises us,
The hospital labyrinth looms.
On the return journey,
Will it be with a black sail or a white?

About this poem:
Some literary and mythic allusions in this one. When Theseus destroyed the Minotaur he returned to Athens by ship. The signal was that if he had white sails he was successful, black sails unsuccessful. Unfortunately he forgot to lower the black sail and his father Aegeus thinking his son was dead, jumped into the sea and killed himself. Hence the sea off Athens is known as the Aegean.

Watch

WATCH, LISTEN
Watch the sea!
Listen to the music!
Wait a minuit!
Pebbles!
Listen to the silence!
Wet jeans, gurgles, laughter,
Sky,
Eyes that sparkle, eyes that laugh,
Colours.
The water washes the pebbles,
Sunshine created the colours,
Brown feet splash, making marks in the sand.

Dash across, watch the sea!
Will it catch you and later free?
Grabbing hands, laughing eyes, her jeans are wet up to her thighs,
Gurgles, crashing, spirited waves,
White washing foam, and we were in it.

Watch the sea,
Listen to the music,
listen to the silence
Between

** I will She'd my tears for you, I will hold on to each and every precious moment we've shared! In My Heart You will always Live!
This is not "Goodbye", Just a "See Ya Again Sometime" I will Be Strong and Carry On, So that I May carry You with Me and share your memory. You came into my life and taught me things that over the years to come, I will still learn from. Yes, You will be dearly Missed, and although, at this moment, It seems so hard to face each new day without you near, I know that where-ever you are, You're Loving Me Still! I'll cry for now, and I may cry some later, But My tears will be filled with all the joy you've once given.

You again

Happy, jovial, ecstasy, bliss
Affection, passion, devotion this
Love is you and me, it’s joy
A dark-haired girl and a blue-eyed boy
Promise, potential, dream, delight
Separation, severance, parting, flight
Desolation, sadness, grief and pain
Wipe my tears, stop this train

Going Under

I’m waiting on the corner of the catwalk
Twelve midnight... Your love I stalk...
Standing alone with the moons piercing light shining directly on my face...
I move back and hide in the shadows
I have every right
Every minute that passes feels like an eternity.. I feel I’m going under, trying to make u see (me)!

What a perfect space... I have the perfect view
I can see your apartment window,
I close my eyes and I picture me & you
So I bite my lip... and swallow my words
Just wondering what your doing with Her!!

Me , you have known all your life
Her you just met... on one drunken night... I feel I’m going under.. trying to make you understand
Cheating doesn’t make you more of a man.

I’m still standing here... it has started to rain, but what does it matter, it’s a blessing in disguise...
Now... no one can see my tears or my pain...

It’s three a.m. ... it’s obvious your not coming home... I feel I’m going under.. remembering the day you died...
And how she was with you and not me

Wading the Waters of Lethe

Little is noticed, less remembered.
Not completely written down, and cut at the templates.
What is not burned is wholly lost but for the mention in another's fragment, which is edited in the compilation and lied about in the quotation.
