A Time for Letting Go

My one constant companion,
Throughout my adult life.
But soon to be abandoned,
One dark and dreary night.

Been through almost ev'rything,
Together thick and thin.
I can't begin to tell you,
The places we have been.

I know that I will yearn for,
This friend that I have loved,
Time has come for moving on,
Now push has come to shove.

What must be will be, although,
I'll miss my friend, you bet.
Now at last the time has come,
For my last cigarette.

Earth Angel

She's was an angel in heaven, she was watching from afar.
She was his lucky seven, his bright and shining star.
She watches him when he sleeps at night, and comes to him in dreams.
She holds him in her wings so tight, she loves him to extreme.
She'll stay with him 'til the end of time, hand in hand she'll light his way.
The steepest hills she will help him climb, each and every day.
An order came from up on high, an answer to a prayer.
It was her charges heaven sent cry, needing her to go down there.
She was sent down to earth this day, to meet her special soul.
To guide him when he went astray, to fill his empty hole.
To bring him joy and happiness, that he prayed for every day.
To give him hope for his success, come rain or shine what may.
He passed her by a time or two, she'd smile and say hello.
This busy man had not a clue, yet he noticed her soft warm glow.
Then one night a guiding hand came down, and placed him in a room.
There she stood in evening gown, he could smell her sweet perfume.
They met each other once again, and danced the night away.
His life seems now not so mundane, prayers answered that he prayed.
Now little angels heaven sent, are at their feet at play.
Rocking on the porch content, their dark hair has now turned gray.
And when the children left that night, he reflected upon his past.
And he looked at her with eyes so bright, and then he had to ask,
"Whatever did I ever do, to have you in my life?
When you smiled and said I do, you became my loving wife.
And you were always there, to love and comfort me.
You took such loving care, you full filled my every need.
So now I'm going to ask, something I think I always knew.
So please remove your mask, and tell me 'Who ARE you?' "
About that time she looked at him, smiled, and her wings began to grow.
Sporting a halo bright and golden trimmed, she said "I'll have you know,
I am your angel from heaven, I was watching from afar,
I am your lucky seven, your bright and shining star.
I watch you when you sleep at night, and come to you in dreams.
I hold you in my wings so tight, I love you to extreme.
I'll stay with you 'til the end of time, hand in hand I'll light your way.
The ladder I will help you climb, for we're Heaven bound today."
As she took his hand in hers, and they lifted off the ground
You could hear him softly whisper, "There ARE Earth Angels to be found"

His Little Angel

I know of a wonderful story and I'll tell you if I may,
About a divine meeting upon one special day.
A man all donned in Red and White with a beard as white as snow.
His eyes all filled with loving light and his soul, how it did glow.
Upon a bike, with Bag in tow, he rode to a special place.
He parked his Bike, then grabbed his bag, with a smile upon his face.
The first he saw was a little angel that came running up with pride.
She grabbed his hand with her small one and lead him straight inside.

"Hi, I'm Collette, she announced with joy, Please come with me", she said.
"I want for you to meet all of my friends," continuing as she lead.
He gladly followed, this little one with his heart all filled with awe,
For he was taken a back by her, this little angel that he saw.
She introduced him to all of her friends, even to those she did not know.
This man all donned in Red and White with a beard as white as snow,
She had never met this man before, only had heard of him in lore.
She knew of all he did for children, for him she did adore.

For you see he was a kind, kind soul, who brightens up the year.
And for all our children sick and well he brings them lots of cheer.
This Man he was amazed at her, for a light she brought to many.
He didn't know she felt ill that day, for complaining she didn't any.
She helped him with his gifts of love, each one she passed away.
And smile she did while giving them on this special day.
She also received a gift from him, but the most precious gift of all.
Was to be the one to help SANTA out, such a big thing for one so small.

You see this little Angel had a cancer inside her little head,
And not so very long ago, she passed away they said.
But though This Kind, Kind Gentleman was saddened by all of this.
He was given such a greater gift, by this little angel that he now missed.
She taught him that no matter what, the hardships we go through.
If one so small can be so brave, then we can do it too.
And now when this man Speaks of his Angel, this Real one that he knows.
She gently sits upon his shoulder and guides him where he goes!

Hunters

Up in a deer blind in the wood,
Some thirty years ago,
I watched and waited for a buck,
That somehow failed to show.

Just tiny finches, rainbow hued,
And squirrels rustling leaves,
The only breaks to silence as,
I peered among the trees.

I turned to look behind me and,
Beheld a wondrous sight.
Upon a log, there perched an owl,
Majestic, snowy white.

So rare a thing in these warm climes,
I'd never seen before.
Stood there in awe above him as,
He scanned the forest floor.

Not finding prey to suit his taste,
He spread his wings to fly.
So graceful and so beautiful,
As he took to the sky.

In all my life I won't forget,
The way it felt that day.
Dumbstruck and humbled, reverant,
I watched him fly away.

Miss Ellie

There is a fine woman I know,
Who's fiery spirit flame glows.
She's much older but young at heart,
With many fine tales to impart.

Been doing some work in her yard,
She pays me well so I work hard.
She lends me her truck when I need,
And always is good for a feed.

Been having some trouble just now,
A neighbor who's started a row.
It is he who had better beware,
Cause her shotgun sits by the stair.

Her surgery's scheduled next week,
Going in to get a new knee.
I'm watching her house when she leaves,
The shotgun will be left with me.

It isn't my feud but I will,
If I have to, won't shoot to kill.
I won't allow skullduggery,
Miss Ellie is trusting in me.

An Afternoon Snorkel

Big jagged bolders stood up in the surf,
The waves were all surging and choppy.
Some folks decided to stay on the shore,
But waves were not gonna stop me.

We waded between the rocks past the chop,
The cove was peaceful and placid.
We then donned our swimfins, adjusted our masks,
Just as the guide had instructed.

Now this cove on Oahu was famous,
Just for this one thing, as they say.
We had come in the hope of our glimpsing,
Giant green sea turtles at play.

Now the guide told us some days there were none,
If lucky maybe one or two.
But on this day we just hit the the jackpot,
Discovering there a whole slew.

Now these creatures are gravely endangered,
No closer to them than six feet.
So I hung in the eerie green water,
Observing their swimming so sweet.

They seemed to just fly through the water,
Ungainly on land as they'd be.
So graceful and peaceful these big vegans,
How could you harm something so free?

As I watched them all frolic below me,
I chanced to look up and, surprise!
One who'd swum to the surface unnoticed,
Was staring straight into my eyes.

Now he wasn't but a foot away from me,
The man and the beast nose to nose.
His ancient eyes held depths unfathomed,
His flippers in gentle repose.

He suddenly turned and departed,
Diving down t'rejoin his own kind,
But I know that this wonderous scene will,
Forever be etched in my mind.

Kathy

The street was packed with snow and ice,
The winter's night was cold and dark.
Two young women, stuck and spinning,
My friend and I helped them to park.

We went into the club and snagged,
The only table that remained.
Then they came in and looked around,
We offered and two chairs obtained.

A bluesman played the club that night,
He was one of the best around.
We drank and talked while listening,
And fin'lly closed that nightclub down.

We offered breakfast then to buy,
The closest place was pretty far.
My friend drove off with one of them,
The other one climbed in my car.

She yawned as she sat over there,
So far away across the seat.
"Lie down and rest your head right here."
And tapped my thigh a subtle beat.

She looked at me suspiciously,
I said, "It's okay, just to rest."
But then her hand slid up my leg,
In such a gentle, soft caress.

After we ate I drove her home,
I hoped a kiss there I might find.
She led the way up to her place,
And then she locked the door behind.

She welcomed me into her bed,
And oh so willingly I came.
But halfway through the night I woke,
And found I did not know her name.

I went into the bathroom then,
Searching in her medicine chest.
A prescription bottle told me,
Kathy, one of my very best.

Love's Beginning

So very glad my dear,
You overcame your fear,
And reaching out your hand,
You hit the send command.

From there the die was cast,
A milestone was passed.
The barriers broke down,
A common path was found.

The days and weeks went by,
Oh how they seemed to fly.
We heard each other's voice,
And then there was no choice.

There was no concealing,
Emotions we were feeling,
And thank the stars above,
We fin'lly spoke of love.

Oh, passion played its part,
But more came from the heart.
Surrender of the soul,
Then turned this love to gold.

We now await the time,
When we can intertwine.
In person as in heart,
As destined from the start.

My love you are the one,
Of which my dreams are spun,
And half-a-world away,
Gets closer every day.

Hallelujah

its all shaking down
the leaves on the trees
the smell of smoke
on a summer breeze
when there isn't mercy
there to please
all love is lost
like the winter freeze
like castaways
on seven seas
life's lonely lot
in minor keys
Hallelujah

I never knew

Oh, I really don't know what happened
oh, and I really don't seem to care
in a way it seemed so dramatic
the way I left you standing there

could have have asked one more time to hold you
could have asked one more time from fear
but I never really knew what happened
so I couldn't really shed a tear

somewhere in the distant future
I'll call you up, hope you're feeling fine
then maybe we can make it happen
make it happen one more time
