Thoughts of Barnsley from Abroad

On their journey to Italy, after secretly marrying in September 1846, Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett travelled through South Yorkshire and rested overnight in the picturesque market town of Barnsley. Although their stay there was the briefest of visits it was long enough for Browning to completely fall in love with the place. After living in Italy for some time Browning became increasingly preoccupied with recollections of “that rustic jewel set in Yorkshire’s Eden”, and his longing to again see the town finally manifested itself in one of his most well known poems.

I'm claiming poetic licence for the bit about the rabbits, molly.

I don't really live anywhere near the dales but there is some nice countryside round here.
It was very poetic indeed laugh

I've been reading a novel based in the dales also. It seems like there are a lot of caves there.
I don't know about caves in the dales, but there are caves in north Derbyshire, not too far away from from where I am.
Harb. Beautiful. Barnsley was on a programme about villages and places of beauty in UK [where I was born] some months ago on Sky Arts. Yorkshire is a very beautiful place, the Dales etc.,

Amazing how many people are not aware of the beauty , the history and scenery, thanks for sharing.hug
I have the lovely Sugar loaf here and mountains but unfortunately, thanks to the Govt. during the 'boom' it is now a rash of Gerry built apartments, habitats disappeared for wildlife and traffic. That won't happen to Barnsley.

I thought the rabbit part would add a bit of realism, GG. wave
You always add realism, mixed with humour, Har
And don't forget the culture I bring to the site, molly.
Har, you do.
You always have interesting blogs. And some are quite cultural in nature. Keep it up.
