What Mary might have said to Joseph....but probabl

The following is a portion of a talk that I am giving at a nursing home function this morning. Put yourself in Joseph's shoes as you read the following and imagine how he might have felt finding out that the woman that he was engaged to was pregnant with God's child. This is a modern tranlation created by me in order to convey an important point.

"Hey Joseph, got a minute? Listen, the funniest thing just happened to me and I thought that I should let you know about it since we are planning to get married and all. You know Gabriel, the messenger of God himself? Well he just stopped by for a brief visit to let me know that I am going to become pregnant by God himself and have his child and that his name will be Jesus. I hope that you like the name that God has chosen for him since I don’t really think that we mortal humans have much choice in the matter. Also, I hope that you don’t mind marrying a woman who is going to have the son of God. I know that being a father carries with it many responsibilities but I just know because you are such a wonderful man that raising the son of the Almighty God himself won’t be too difficult for you. Anyway, I just thought that I should let you know what was going on. Joseph? Joseph? Joseph, are you listening to me???? And why is your mouth hanging down to your ankles? Are you going to say anything to me or not?"
