Intelligence "tests", and intelligence(s)...

... . We humans often step into it when we attempt to measure anything about ourselves, and misuse it to direct policy. Enter the Sanford-Binet Tests. A half thousand or so often outdated, and culturally stipulated questions, focussing only on verbal and reconing skills. Bad enough, but even it's theoretical foundations are invalid. AS IF human intelligence is uni- or even mostly bidimensional. There are all sorts of intelligences. Social, emotional, athletic, musical, artistic, strategic, business, even perhaps s*xual, etc. Originally designed to help sort out people for social policy, soon it's uses expanded, nefariously. In world war I, it placed many men into private stripes, thereby squarely into cannon fodder territories. (But subalterns had higher casualty RATES.) And was used to screen many potentially imminently teachable kids into academic backwaters. Slightly improved over the decades, mostly on PC parameters. But still the standard for many, who really should know much better. As always, just follow the dollar for the real truth. Now it's "intelligent" , self driving, autos.

Actually this test was designed for young adults to determine placement in societal programs. It was a combination of cognitive testing of Verbal, Visual, Quantitative and Short term Memory 'reasoning'. Each of the four components received a score and then was used to determine a combined score. The test has been modified on any number of occasions for different groups.
It is considered the best IQ indicator.

cool
Intelligence is a good guess and a good guess is based on how much one can gleam from a clue. You can't really shine a light on intelligence without blinding what it does. No, the intelligent person shines a light on the great unknown. Minimal information, instruction and education are no barriers to your simple and accurate description of the answer.
Thanks, again, CC. As ever, profound insights into a complex issue. Never stop posting.
cc is good isn't he, I was going to say why cloud the brain with unwanted info, I do not need mechanics so why learn that. Anyway intelligence in my book is learning to live peacefully with oneself, survival in this mess of a world takes a great deal of ducking and diving, text book stuff one can learn like poetry but does not give one intelligence laugh
Relatively, lots of folks out there with IQ's as high or higher than Einsteins. But no one will come close to his accomplishments.
Not in his family life. About which we never hear. Cultural biases are everywhere, no?
Righto, Ex. My little list in my blog rant neglegted street schmartz. Actually, a combo of many, no?
