Moving out of Washington

Once my lease is up in the summer, I'm putting Washington State to the rear bumper and hitting for Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, or even South Carolina (leaning towards Florida). Minimum wage increases resulting in tax increases, as well as lack of payments of apartment rents by many during Covid has raised the cost of living, has made this place unbearable. Combine that with the migration of the homeless straight from either Oregon or California, and now I have to keep my head on a swivel every time I go outside. Heck, I have to do that at my place of work, which is the mall where vagrants have come inside to make trouble!

It would be nice to have someone come along for the ride, or maybe meet me at that final destination away from the Pacific Northwest.

Aside from that, anyone else wanting to leave the Pacific Northwest/California? If so, why? If not, why not?

It's possibly worse in Florida. When COVID hit, people from the Northeast migrated South. That caused a shortage in real estate and housing prices more than doubled. Rentals are also affected... if you are lucky enough to find a place.
Some people around here have relocated to North Carolina where the winters are tolerable and the cost of living is better.
My suggestion is do some extensive research before you land in a place and get trapped.
Hi wave I agree with Chat housing has gone crazy in my part of Florida tho I believe there are areas of Florida that are not as bad. Research is your friend. Check maybe central northern areas. I live right on the east coast in a place called Vero Beach. It is beautiful. I checked your profile out to see what I could see. In the line of work you are in most of Florida is below average pay from what I hear on the news. I also hear they are trying to change that. We are begging for firemen, paramedics, etc. So you will def want to check that out. We have our share of the homeless, in the winter they migrate south to get out of the cold. Some cities try to make it as pretty as they can taking care of the homeless. We are after all a retirement state and tourist destination for many. I have a friend who bought property in Georgia for when she retires. She goes up there and talks about how the cost of living there is so much better. I don't know a lot about South Carolina. I do know about North Carolina. It is one of the most beautiful states. Cost of living is reasonable. I have thought about selling my home and going tiny. They have really beautiul tiny home. Some reasonable some not so much. Best wishes with your relocation wave

PS You might want to check Tennessee out also!
Washington is one of the most beautiful states. boogie
LoL to the idea that warmer states don't have homeless or illegal migrants. Fact is sleeping on a sunny beach, or in an orange or peach grove is much nicer than sleeping under a rainy or snowy bridge overpass in Washington State. And best of all, even the homeless can have AR rifles in those states.
My son currently lives in Auburn,Washington....he only sees homeless people when he goes into Seattle...and yes, he has to walk around poop on the sidewalks. He has to park his car in a secure parking garage and either walk or take the the monorail (train) to where he is going..or, he takes the risk of his car having it’s windows smashed out.

It does cost more to live in Washington..but, his profession is unionized..so he makes more than he did in Florida.

The prices for rent and homes have skyrocketed in Florida..especially on either the west to east coasts...

Many people have moved out of my state..because it has become too expensive.
I promise that I won't get trapped. However, I will look into North Carolina. Right now, I just gotta work on getting out of Washington. I will not go to New York; that's where the buck stops for me.
Thank you! I will look into Tennessee as well!
The Eastern half is where I reside, and after 34 years, it hasn't improved beyond building a new part of Kennewick up in the Southridge area.
I worry that it will be too expensive everywhere, and then where will we go? How will the landlords/landladies survive without us? Who will occupy those empty spaces?
"I worry that it will be too expensive everywhere, and then where will we go? How will the landlords/landladies survive without us?"

There will never be a shortage of people desperate for shelter and sustenance.

" Who will occupy those empty spaces?"

Refugees.
Who will pay for them?
Who is paying for the influx now?
Willingly or unwillingly?
According to U-Haul, these were the top 5 cities people moved to in 2023:
1)Palm Bay, Melbourne, FL
2)Ocala, FL
3)Charleston-North Charleston, SC
4)Sarasota-Bradenton, FL
5)Austin, TX
Wow. That surprised me. Palm Bay and Melbourne are close to me. The housing is still expensive but at least in that area they are close to Nasa so there is some good job opporturnities. My area is more a retirement area. conversing
Heard through the grapevine that the minimum wage in Florida is $15 per hour now. Apart from all the alligator swamps and Mexicans having a great time, that's about it.laugh
Good luck with you move.
**your move.
It doesn’t surprise me at all that the Sarasota/Bradenton area is in the top 5...

One of my co-workers moved from the Venice are to Ocala...He loves it..homes are less expensive there...

Lakewood Ranch is a master-planned development in both Sarasota and Manatee counties...many retirees and young families are moving to that area...

Too populated for me...why, when I sold my last home, I moved further south in Sarasota county.
I am not sure which grapevine you heard this through...

I was born and raised in Florida..you learn to respect alligators...

As far as Latinos living in my state..of course they do..they have been for years now..

Some of the most loyal and hardworking people I know...

We are lucky to have them.
