? not sure what you mean, but heard someone say it is short for:
"Advanced Dynamic Human Deity" ? any others ?
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder isn't deadly
wat u mean its deadly
hey there, i think angel meant its not deadly...and its not...ADHD or ADD...is basically a chemical problem within the brain for both children and adults where ppl are unable to concentrate, stay focused, get overly distracted, disorganized and very hyper...cant stay still for long periods at a time....i think all of us have a little of ADHD in us...lol...but truly think we all do...its like any other diagnosis, ways to work with it and live a very happy and productive life....cheers
ADHD and ADD come under the same umbrella of learning difficulties as dyslexia, dyspraxia, Erlan's syndrome, autism (including Asperger's syndrome) and others. They are hereditary, linked and you can have more than one of them. My daughter and I both come under this umbrella of so-called disorders.

It has its down sides, (words 'moving' on the page, visual illusions, difficulty with concentration and lots more), but the up side is intelligence and artistic ability. We both have some unique talents that we wouldn't have if it weren't for our so called learning difficulties.

Nobody ever says you have a learning difficulty if you can't draw, but they do if you can't spell, or if you lose concentration easily.

My daughter can't remember a list of more than one , or two instructions, but can draw her own face from memory. There's a portrait that she drew on my profile, if you fancy a look.

Albert Einstein, Johnny Depp, Keira knightly and many other supremely talented and unique people come under this umbrella of disorders.
I don't believe in disorders. Those are labels put on people who can't be hearded and taught like the linear thinkers (who later are prone to becoming sheeple). I love that souls come in with the intention of not living by someone else's idea of "normal". It is sad that their unique gifts are drugged out of them. May all the priceless unique and interesting souls be recognized and appreciated just as they are!!!applause applause
I agree that labeling people with a disorder can have negative connotations, but that's to do with the prejudice and ignorance that surrounds them.

They are also a useful tool for exploration, self-discovery and finding solutions to certain difficulties.

At one time being short-sighted and needing glasses was viewed with the same prejudice as these specific learning difficulties, but now nobody bats an eyelid at the phenomenon of myopia.

The more aware society is of the different ways in which people learn, the less stigma will be attached to them, so I say, well done mattdunn for raising this subject in a public forum.
right on, Jac! Awareness is slow in coming. Sometimes I feel frustrated by it. Nice to see some folks here are "seeing" clearly. wave
Its another reason for someone to write a book.

How did we survive without them?
some children do not survive wars either.

Sometimes the guilty parties can be held accountable.
But governments may simply ignore such casualties.
International laws exist against war crimes, for example.

Now, some reason for the "labels" discussed here, has to
do with laws and regulations. International laws exist.

For example: in the education system, these individuals
may have rights for special exams, environment, classes.
A lot of protective laws exist in a number of areas.
They have the right to a whole range of benefits.

If the government don't fulfill these laws, you can
bring it to court.

quote: "SOME CHILDREN DO NOT SURVIVE."

yes, and that is why these laws exist.
BTW: Most benefits and regulations are not supposed
to be understood by laymen. Specialist are needed.

A surprising number of benefits may apply, but only if
acted upon before a certain age. Full pension despite
poor income, and so on.

Legislation change over time, and it is not the same
everywhere. A whole industry attempts to cash in. Politics,
budgets, and who employ the 'advisers' ? County perhaps ?

( just hope to give some idea, and my knowledge is limited )
Thanks Ms. Smitten, of course my "isn't deadly" was referring to the bloogers "it's a decease".

Meditation instead of medication works great for me to juggle all my received labels.
As some of you now my son is autistic and I refused to medicate him, there are other way to deal with the problem then shoving a pill in there mouth, but there is also time when it is needed in different cases of other things like ADHD AND OTHER PROBLEM ,
but with my son it was a lot dam hard work on both our parts, and my best wishes go out to all these parent that have to deal with this every day of there lifeteddybear teddybear

Some research done in Norway seem to suggest that food/diet may
be important. ( peptides as the cause of several forms of autism, etc )
My hair on my back stands up, and my mouth goes dry when I read the comments on the subject, only because I know what hell I went through with my own child..

I have studied ADHD and ADD for over 10 years, actually I should say the medication that one can take..all the ups and downs..and I promise you I fought to keep my child off it...I must say that the Docs dont know very much, except that the time is ticking ane the main aim is to make money at the end of the day...MY DAUGHTER never had full ADHD or ADD, but did have one or two traits of it that I was told would grow out of her as she got older...I have to say that yes some medication works for kids, not for others..I had my child cry and beg me not to give it to her after the ist week..she said she had no control over her mind...now YOU tell ME...People are way to lazy to spend the extra time with there kids with homework, maybe coz they tired or whatever..DRs are way to quick to make moms get out there and buy the drug.

Moms and dads do your homework first before you decide what the plan of action will be
YES food plays a huge thing in it, the diet..NO RED juice..lots of fresh fruit and Raw Veg is a must..CHIPS must not have ANY MSG in it..dont be fooled by what the frount of the packet says, turn it over and READ...
And they can now hide MSG under "natural flavors". frustrated
