So you want to quit smoking ?

Hi I just watched an Allen Carr DVD "The easy way to stop smoking"

No, I'm not a representative. I hate smoking and having been trying to quit for years and I think I've found the answer.

Hence I want to share it and give you just an insight into what you can expect.

Basically, I've known about the majority of what the DVD covers for a while but was missing that key to unlock becoming a non smoker.

As I write this I can tell you that I had my final ciggarette about 15 minutes ago, I binned all the tobacco in the house.

I know I will have cravings but I am ready to embrace them for what they are. I've always believed that if you can last a few days you are half way there. Nicotine is the most addictive and poisonous drug (more so then cocaine, grass, heroine etc).

A little tip: When you do get around to watching it and I highly recommend it.

Watch it at night before you go to sleep, I feel you get a head start then.

Get a couple sheets of paper, one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen. Write the text "STARVE YOUR MONSTER and feel good about it!"
This is just to remind you of your primary goal again in the morning and remember the simple facts.

Good LUCK I'll keep you posted on my progress twice a day for the next couple of days. If you watch it and have any questions email me.

I guess I was an exception to all those that have struggled with quiting. I just quit cold turkey. I did nothing but stop, no gimmicks, no patches or gum, no nothing. I use to smoke about 2 packs a day. It has been 10 years now. Food taste better and my lungs are cleaner. All the best and congratulations. It will be one of the best things you have ever done.
The bottom line is that, no matter which way you go about giving 'em up, or for whatever reasons, you need to really want to quit.

My problem is that I still love that smoke with a cuppa first thing in the morning.

uncertain

Better make that 6 smokes and 3 cuppas. roll eyes
Have a big glass of water when you feel the urgue.. Get's your mind off AND helps flushing the toxins and emotions related with smoking out of you system. You've to replace a bad habit with a good one - that's what I've learned.
Thanks Angel, yes substitutes are bad, so eating between meals, lolipops etc.
I have thought about this also (years of wanting to give up)
Water is the safest, our body is made up of mostly water so changing it frequently is a good idea.

SO ANOTHER UPDATE: I went for a two hour midday walk today and I felt great !

So far so good the cravings havent been as bad as i thought they would be. Im almost convinced this is due to the different mind frame. As we speak I am kind of wanting one, so I guess i just have to tell myself, you made the right decision, i am feeling the craving because im killing the monster and i am a non smoker. ( you almost have to picture the monster dieing which helps you feel positive about the cravings).

Thanks for the comments all.

One more night and day for the worst to be over... then 2 weeks later the body expels most of the toxins and I never look back and recliam my life.

yay
UPDATE Morning of day 2.

Again, I'm in a rather good mood. Waking up to the "Starve the Monster" A4 sheet isnt as daunting as yesterday, after all i made it through yesterday. Coffee and a nice walk are on the agenda.

I did notice a better mood this morning, I am really excited that I am a non smoker again. Cant wait to reclaim my life bit by bit.
Good luck to you. I just quit about 5 weeks ago. I chose the Zyban method. I did not want to go through that phase of being irritable and miserable when the cravings hit. Zyban reduces the cravings considerably and it doesn't involve any nicotine. So far so good. Supposed to stay on the drug for 3 months. Very good success rate I have read. But I salute you for attempting to quit without any substitutes and just your will power. Again, good luck.
did you tell that 4om where and how to get this dvd. what abt e ciggerete . dont they work also?
whats zyban method plz
Actually this method doesnt really use will power, its just reasoning, logical thinking and well thought out answers for problem areas.

I've given you the name of the DVD, how and when you get it is your business. ;)

Good luck all currently trying to quit.
Thanks again for all comments a further update tonight.
Angel is right. You have to 'replace' smoking with something else. When I quit for a few years I literally changed my schedule. This tricks the mind and since its not part of your new 'normal' routine, you dont really even think about it. For example, if you get up and smoke a few ciggarettes before work, get up and do something else instead, say, maybe 30 pushups?

The other thing I did was start running. This helped tremendously for a few different reasons. First, it staved off the weight gain, and second, the deep breathing actually mimics how one breathes when they smoke. Most people think the nicotine is calming them down, but its not, its the way you are breathing. The nicotene actually makes you more on edge. After a while, I started running so much I would get the runners high....which felt good.

Another thing I did was meditate.....this really helped any anxiety and also again, the breathing.....instead of going outside to smoke, meditate.

Never heard of this whole 'monster' concept, but really all that is, is a form of meditation. Wont stay with you for long though unless you believe it on a subconcious level. I would say definetely start meditating. Good luck!! beer
For xyzkhan who asked:

Zyban is a prescription drug that helps eliviate the urges to smoke. Some combine it with the nicotine patch. I chose not to. You can research Zyban on the internet, there are several articles.
Drea111 NO. Replacing cigarettes is the wrong train of thought. You have to believe before you quit that you are not depriving yourself of anything.

Sure its good to be able to do things like jogging and why not jog but dont think of it as a replacement.

By the way i've been walking for 2hrs everyday just to get some fresh air, some excercise and appreciate being a non smoker.

It is now the third day and I can't say I have felt a need to have a cigarette, its simply I have really made a good decision to stop smoking and Im not depriving myslef of anything by doing so.

If you dont believe me look at the type of posts I make and the type of person I am. I wouldnt be recommending this if I didnt think it could help 'you'.

peace
what do you mean? I dont need help quitting, i dont smoke! Every now and there here or there if I drink I will have one, but nothing major.

Sounds like you replaced your ciggs with walking, buddy! laugh Well yes obviously you have to want to quit above all else, but ultimately you have to reprogram the behavior, is all I was saying.
I quit smoking couple of months ago applause tried champix, made me soo sick, tried patches, had really weird dreams & not much sleep crying now nicorette minis & just have a half of one when im strung out, they are not nice so the time between them is getting greatercheering doing all the usual things, walking more, trying to eat healthy & not replace cigarettes with food, not easy blues more good days than bad now, think im winning banana soo not easy tho, some days are a breeze & others are a challenge, but one thing i know is i will never smoke again cheering so to everyone going through this, hang in there & persevere, its not easy at all, but really is worth it yay
