Cottage in England

For those living in the UK, I always thought it would be so cool to do a house exchange for the summer. I could make my house available for the summer, and in exchange I could stay in a cottage in a little out of the way village in England, way away from big cities, 'cause I'm a country boy at heart and hate city life. I've seen websites that cater to this kind of interest.

It may be important to be careful of allowing stranger into your home. You never know what they will get up to laugh

Renting a cottage in the English Countryside, Scotland or Ireland can be found at reasonable prices. Hope you find one Hugger....it's a great way to unwind! dancing dog
I believe in the UK you refer to residences as "flats", but that may just be equivelent to what we call apartments in the U.S. Also, I have heard many residences in the UK referred to by names, rather than addresses, such as "Briershine". Perhaps the named residences are reserved for mansions or the more well to do folks' places? In the U.S., we sometimes refer to such places as "estates", and they are invariably surrounded by white fences or tall walls to set them off as an estate, or they are in a gated community.
Hugger, why don't you impress a fine lady who lives over there ? \so you may have the chance to shot two bunnies !
Why don't you try couchsurfing? That will allow you visiting a number of places without paying too much and risking your house.
I actually have been on sites that mention UK cottage exchange, but it is rather hard to find the sites. You have to know exactly how to word the search request so it comes out right. But the ones I have checked seem very good. I think, for my house, I would use a property manager to oversee my house while I was gone. I do know that staying in England is very expensive, even for just a Summer. So that kind of puts the project on the back burner, anyway.

Thank you all for the good advice! Much appreciated.

If winters in the UK are anything like Washington state, it would be bitter cold in the winter. "Put another coal on the barby, mate, it's freezing in here!"
