October breathing fire, returns! And that is a fair summation, as the month opens with a compendium of planets in idealistic Libra. This includes the Sun, as well as Mercury, Venus and Saturn. Libra is symbolized by the scales reflecting balance, equality, fair-play, and justice. Ruled by Venus, harmony and LOVE compels Libra. But with Saturn in the mix for a little over a year, it hasn’t been all fun and games. Most will testify (especially Libra and those under Libra influence) it’s been downright rough. Saturn in the playground of Libra has upped the ante for us all, and most of us have had to work hard at creating the balance we need in a very imbalanced world. We have had to make do with what we have, and this has caused us all to sort of ‘sit up in the buggy’ and pay attention to what is absolutely necessary to the picture and what is not. Because Libra demands that we not settle for less than what is fair, just and healthy…we have all had to question the quality of our relationships -and attempt to establish ‘right relationship‘ ~to our loved ones, to ourselves ~and to our environment.

The first three weeks of October belongs to Libra and the stellium of planets therein, mentioned earlier, are impacted by Saturn’s presence as well. It has a ‘weighting down’ affect. Transits through Libra have an impressive history in society, occurring approximately every 30 years (for a stay of about 2 and ½ years). The last passage (beginning in October of 1980) saw the social awakening of ‘Reaganomics’ and the stunning development/recognition of AIDS’s; the one before it was responsible for the birth of the ‘baby boomers’ and Rock and Roll ~ both truly iconic social and cultural events. This time around, Saturn has been eye-popping for the entire world, giving us in no uncertain terms, bare knuckle ultimatums.

Libra rules those around us and society as a whole. The ‘need-to-improve‘ has ‘fanned out’ from our personal consciousness to the collective one ~projecting onto the larger platform of the global environment (complete with the phenomenon of Facebook) referred to now as the ‘social networking media’ ~definitely a Libra forum. -We have been able to see the power of Saturn in Libra, for it often presents as challenge or revolt. Nature has been showing us (whether we like it or not) that we are intricately and delicately tied to our planetary environment. It has been revolting against our misuse of its natural resources and challenging us on both individual and globally to find appropriate and sustainable measures to supply the burgeoning needs of humankind, or the consequences will be dire. It is clear that what Saturn in Libra is trying to show us is that we have a social responsibility to each other and to the care of the planet. For we ARE the stewards of the Earth.

As October comes to a close in the sign of Scorpio, we can see that nothing less than a paradigm of total transformation is required. Venus, Mercury, Part of Fortune and the Sun will all be stationed in Scorpio by the 23rd of October. Scorpio, a force to be reckoned with, is represented by two separate entities, the deadly scorpion with ‘ground-level’ observation only, or the soaring eagle. We have paid the ‘Scorpion price’ for our reckless behavior, let us now choose to transform ourselves into the ‘being-ness’ of the powerful and visionary eagle, which heralds us towards the close of a tumultuous year of reckoning. Resistance, Scorpio knows, is not an option. We must spread our wings and glide towards this unified goal, astutely gaging our projected path as well as our destination ~targeting the tiniest details while also holding in our mind’s eye, the big picture, ever from on high.
