How indifrent have we become ?

How indifrent have we become as a society? We see the news at dinner, of crimes and war ,a homeless person with a hand out ,somebody changing a tyre ,an elder person having trouble carrying groceries...the list is endless .Most of the times people look away, Its Im too late ,not my problem and any other excuse .How selfish and isensitive have we become as a society ?Will we change for the better or worst with this global crises?

We have change for a worse in the crisis, because God cannot fill INDIFFERENT heart His mercy / love with. Free will.
You're right that it can be overwhelming.
These things and worse have always happened.
But now, we get a full report & video.
Usually, it's after the fact and there's
nothing you can do anyway.
In cases where something CAN be done,
it often is done. That sometimes doesn't
make the news, because rather than a follow-up
report, it is replaced by yesterday's newest tragedy.
Frequently, these tradegies bring out the best in people.
Locally and internationally, there has been aid.
Individuals may, but it's not like society as whole turns their back on it. peace
Jim , do you think there is Group responsibility of society?
Or REPORTING OF ACTIVITIES?peace
I agree with Jim that usually good deeds go unnoticed. I think small acts of goodwill happen daily and the best that we can do is continue to pay it forward. Random acts of kindness can go a long way and there is something contagious about vicarious learning....

Great blog!!
Most people care and hurt when they see these things, but the problem is so big,so huge, that when you look at it you feel an overwhelming feeling of helplessness. What more can we do but donate food to food banks and clothes to the needy?

I believe that charity begins at home and when family, and those we love, are in trouble we should help them, even if it means an inconvenience for us.When my brother broke up with the mother of his three small daughters he had nowhere to go but with myself and my husband who were at the time living in a small apartment.

If we start taking care of our own and stop being so selfish then this will help much of the homeless issues.
Mia I agree with you I do think it has goten worse with this global economic crises ,I think it hardens peoples hearts or maybe just a basic self preservating instinc ,or people just become more selfish.
Jim I agree that all the good that is done doesent get reported its easier for the news just to put up the tragidies. We havent turned our back as a society at least in the so called first world or developed economies but the underdevoloped countries I think its a difrent story poverty and indifrince seem to go hand in hand .
Kara I do like the pay it foward view
maryrachelle I agree that charity does start at home and Im glad that you and your husband were able and ageed both to help your brother.
There were close to 90 views but only 10 comments made, enough said. I watched the video & felt angry, but at the same time I can't say I was totally shocked. Where are we headed? help sigh sigh
That was a tragic event that should not have happened. If that had happened in the U.S., the police would have been on it in a heartbeat, and the perpetrator would have been charged with hit-and-run, which is a very serious crime here.
Maray: I agree with you, charity should begin at homethumbs up this in fact could solve alot of problems...
It always strikes me as odd when families don't stick together or offer help to one another (despite inconvenience)
