Kuwait Law Enforcement

Kuwait is one of the countries that has a high mortality rate due to fatal traffic accidents. I've lived here for a little over a year and it's just the past couple of days that I've actually seen patrol cars stop vehicles which amazes me. There is only one reason I can think of why this is happening. The Minister of Interior is new and hopefully will make a difference. The old Minister of Interior resigned because of police corruption...at least that's what I read in the papers. In any rate, I was telling myself, "It's about time someone does something" until this morning.

I was going to work and we were right behind a cop car on the middle lane going 120 kph which is the max speed limit. All of a sudden this truck on the fast lane passed the patrol car and tailgated the car in front of him. These two cars must be going at least 160 kph and this went on a few kilometers. The patrol car in front of us never did anything.

Just when I had hoped that things would change for the better, something like this happened. Am I surprised? Not the least; however, I still have hope that some things in this country will change for the better...maybe not anytime soon but in the near future.

Thanks for your inputs; however, running away from something I don't particularly like is not always the solution. Learning how to adapt in the environment I'm in, makes me more flexible and resilient.
Which sheik runs that country? Complain about recklessness on the roads. scold
yes I can see now , every one with a L plate , waiting to get their reverse parking done successfully and awaitig to get their P pate ...

and heaven forbid those who dont flash their brake lights befor a ped-crossing ....a parti banana
Parti...one of the new requirement to get a driver's license here is a college degree; but some professions are exempted from this requirement. Not sure a college degree has anything to do with driving...maybe read signs lol.

I'm not much for high speeds on the highway. I drive slow. I've ruined car engines by putting along at 20 miles per hour under the speed limit. I have a bumper sticker on my car: "Young fogey at the wheel."peace
@spd...I''m not angry at all.
@Elmorya...I thought about that too and I have taken pictures to and from work since we have to drive about an hour. I have to check the legality of that process before I get myself in trouble :(. Seems like it's a work of a vigilante lol.
@ raine4766 ~ wave wine Just a suggestion; I don't think you should feel bad though ~ it may just save someone's life! Or some minister may see it and decide to investigate traffic there....!

We do it in our country................see here....>
Hi Raine!

I started a comment earlier today but decided not to post it. I thought about this more today.

Basically, the officials don't give enough value to the lives of their citizens and visitors. They allow reckless/dangerous behavior by some to endanger the safety of others and consider the consequences to be acceptable. I'm thankful that this isn't true where I live.

The only other reason for this would be that they do not have the resources for enough safety enforcement ... and this doesn't appear to be the case.

People drive "stupid" everywhere. For myself, I chose my routes and my driving time with safety as a consideration. If possible, I avoid the more dangerous places to be.

Good luck! handshake
In Argentina we also have a high mortality traffic accidents.
It's part due to cultural behave (drivers don't respect norms, speed limits, etc) and part due to lack of investment by the government (routes from 50/60 years ago, few highways, etc)
@inthemind...true if you currently live in New York. We tend to implement our laws and have enough law enforcement agents to enforce the laws. Unlike in Kuwait, at least 75% of the drivers are migrant workers who are probably driving without a driver's license and getting paid under the table. There are several scenarios I can think of how these people get their driver's licenses, if any, but I know if something like this slips through the system in the US (if ever), they will get caught eventually and fined up the ying yang.
@Marco...you have a valid point. It boils down to the driver and how some drivers don't follow road rules.
I was in Kuwait for some time around 2003/04. I did notice how people drive and the speed they can attain. I was also told that one of the reasons the mortality rate is so high is because many don't wear their seat belts in which cases when accidents do occur more people will die than if they were tied down. I was also told many don't wear their seat belts (adults & children) because they say if God wants them to die they'll die whether they wear their seat belt or not.
