Gluten Free diet from now on

Visited my twin sister over the weekend, first time in months I had got over to see her and we got to have a decent chat. As we were ordering a Chinese takeaway she mentioned that the reason she picked that Chinese was that they dont use MSG which her stomach reacts badly to. Same here I said. That led to her telling me that she had recently been diagnosed as have a mild form of Coeliac disease, as a result of regular upset stomachs, irritable bowel and some skin eruptions. And hey bingo I have been have the exact same symptoms but thought there were stress related. So I looked up the symptoms. Ah for heavens sake, that made such sense of what I've been dealing with. Ok no more gluten for me and hopefully an end to it.

Coeliac disease is a very common condition which can go undiagonised for years leaving people to suffer unnecessarly as a Change in diet is often the only treatment required to eleviate the many unpleasent and painfull symptoms that people suffer. It is often missed diagionised as a stress related condition with no treatment except to avoid stressfull situations (what a laugh). Glad you have been able to self diagnose and now you may well be on the way to improving your present condition. yay
Hey Peter,

At least you know what is making you feel so out of sorts. I know many people that go for years w/o knowing what was wrong. I have a friend that can't eat Any gluten/wheat products as well as All soy products. What a bummer.

The problem: almost everything has soy or gluten/wheat in it. If you like mustard - out of the question. you know why - it has vinegar and most vinegars have gluten/wheat in them. (with the exceptions of Apple Cider vinegar, White or Red wine vinegars) Some people can get away w/ using some items because to amount to gluten/wheat in it is so low that it doesn't bother them, but she can't have any of it.

I only know as much as I do because of her and because I cooked for three years having to keep people's special dietary needs in mind. It's such a headache just to cook for them, can't imagine what it's like to have to need to keep track of eveything you buy and eat one's self.

Good luck and Take care,

Hi Peter, I forgot to say in my last message that there is an excellent site, Coeliac Society Of Ireland. I think it will be very use full to you because if describes all the symptoms of coeliacs disease. You can get a home test which was in Lidls last week. It is a very simple test to use and could confirm things for you. You can actually obtain gluten free products on prescription which may save you money if you use the drugs scheme. Well worth looking into. The site also tells you where you can buy the products and a lot of the big shops carry a wide range of products. Good luck with the change in lifestyle, keep us informed on your progress.
