Wabbet and the Beggar
I'm walking home from work through the city and a beggar asks me, "Excuse me, but do you have any spare change?" I looked at him and said "No, sorry."Now normally i do give change to those who need it but this guy obviously didn't, i mean it wasnt so much the brand new pair of Nikes he had on (and i know these are only a couple of months old because i brought a pair for my nephews birthday) it wasnt the fact that he had an Ipod on or even the D&G glasses he had on, but it was the fact that he was sipping a Latte in a Starbucks cup that really threw me.
I cant even remember the last time i was able to afford a Starbucks coffee, so after a quick assessment of the situation i decided that i was in more need of my change than he was. I looked at what i was wearing and what he was wearing and in the latest fashion stakes he won and i was a ragged looking last place.
Not even my Mp3 player could put up a good fight with his Ipod and chose that very moment to go flat, i felt somewhat embarrassed that in my hand i had a McD's coffee i could just sense the milk going sour inside my cup as it sensed that Starbucks greatness was close by.
So, feeling poor and dejected i left this chap who seemed quite happy in his own world and went searching for a doorway to sit in and a bit of cardboard to write on..
