One of my most favourite memories..

I was 7 years old, It was late summer early autumn(Fall) and the day had been hot and now it was starting to cool down, the long shadows that heralded the imminent arrival of night slowly began to cast themselves as the sun slowly started to sink into the horizon.

I had just finished helping my father with the lawns, the smell of freshly cut grass mixed with the aromas of the various fruit trees, peach, apple and lemon all added together to provide wonderful heady mixture that still resonated of the summer that was soon to be over.

It was decided that we should have a bbq for dinner and immediately the whole household burst into action, my sisters, the faithful liuetenants of my mother, carried out her every request and command while my father and i gathered up wood and set about constructing the fire that would cook our food.

The intricacies of fire building and starting duly explained to me my father let me light the fire and once it was well on its way, we brought out some tables and chairs and helped the ladies set the table.

My father and i cooked the food and we all joked and laughed about everything and soon we were all happily eating, enjoying each others company, enjoying the day, enjoying life.

Night fell and moved to sit around the glowing embers of the fire and my mother and father told us funny stories until us kids fell asleep and i remember thinking to myself just before i nodded off that this would be one of my most favourites day ever... and i was right.
