Hundreds of dogs and cats die from rock salt scattered by gritters in big freeze

Animals walk through the substances left by gritters and then lick them off their paws. Consuming rock salt can cause dehydration, liver failure and pancreatitis.

Thank you so much for this blog, velsix. I've begun to notice that a type of ice melter is now available at pet stores and even Wal-Mart that is safe for animals here in the states. Hopefully, the product is also available in other countries.
Your very welcome Chame1eon but the product you mentioned isn't what they put on the roads though. if you take your dog out onto where they have gritted, make sure you was their feet as soon as you return home....

They call it salting here. Or sanding. Sometimes they uses ash, so I guess that would be ashing. dunno
