DESTRUCTION
I watched as the noisy groupwent down the slopes to the river below,
Their enthusiasm so evident.
I sat on the rock, watching, smiling
They were grown ups, fun loving obviously,
The smooth patch of grass clean, and fresh
inviting them, over, no conditions
They ran the rest, some, still slow,
The guys, went to the rocks
The girls, sat on the grass
I could see them, from there, on my rock
I was glad, they had a place to come to
Some had a dip, others smoked,
The girls sang, danced merrily,
Lovers kissed, embraced, cuddled
I missed my man, I was on my own
They spread the food, opened the drinks
They ate, relaxed in the comfort of
the cool air, the gentle rush of flowing water
Some lay down, others sat gazing
The plastic that carried all the food
started blowing away, rustling in the wind
None cared to take them away,
I watched in dismay, tears gathered
The bags, settled on the water,
on grass far off, and the rocks ahead,
Paper was strewn around, scraps of food
scattering among all that was beautiful
They didn't see, they weren't bothered
none of them, valued what was freely given,
the grass that welcomed them, with no conditions
was now a mess with empty cans, bottles and boxes
the dirt and the bags, were an eyesore,
oh, was this what they came for?
I suffered in silent rage
Their laughter, echoing on the hills
I watched, as darkness gathered,
them stumbling up, away from the destruction
they so carelessly created
silence prevailed in a matter of time
The wonder of the river, the grass and rocks
is now, marred by the waste that was left..
Wearily, I climbed down, dragging my self
to clean up what I could..
For, what I love, must be preserved
I cannot correct ones who are ignorant,
thoughtless and utterly selfish,
I must do, what I could, to create beauty
That I so lovingly crave for,
when I need to be there....
