Car change

I live in a public housing where the rent is based on one's income. Hence, you won't expect finding big and foreign sounding cars. Once a single mom of two changed her car from red Benz to a less noticeable kei one. And for several days now, the yellow sports car is changed into a low key gray one. Maybe trying to avoid the prying eyes of the housing staff. Not envious. Just amused on how some tenants are avoiding the raise in rentals. Sort of enjoying some luxuries while trying to appear poor for the housing staff. confused

Well, perhaps not foreign cards, but one sees lots of gas guzzlers in housing paid for by tax payers. Older Yank vehicles can be bought for next to nothing these days, and parts are still available. So lots of poor folk have them. One saw the same thing years ago driving through US southern states on back roads. Really run down shacks- but each with a beater outside, and a (color) TV antenna on the lealy roof. These trends happen elsewhere? Aa.
It is sometimes just a matter of priorities. Some people will live on samp and beans just to afford satelite TV or a luxury car.
I've had that adjustment too.And owned a trailer once.Lately, poverty is apparent in those living in old
Campers.( motorhome).Sad to see them parked in a Walmart instead of RV park with laundry/showers.
I know people who live poor, and are actually quite wealthy, confused , probably because its easier to live that way, than living rich, and actually being poor.
I just wonder what the asterisk is for. Seems like some words have negative connotation to it or my choice of word is wrong!rolling on the floor laughing
Hariato, tatami. You write well and make sense, with a tone of graciousness. I hope, and believe, that your government (and culture) would assure that public housing there is decent. Here, almost ll off it gets trashed by the residents in short order. It tends to not happen so much in this Northern state, but we have almost no minority residents. It seems also to remain in good condition in the few experiments where public housing residents were helped and encouraged tto become owners of their appartments. Not saying there's a cause and effecct in this, just an observatin, as I've lived in many places. Aa.
@aaltar, I must remind you that I'm a Filipina and just a long time resident of Japan. Hence I'm still learning to adapt to Jculture despite of my more than 20 yrs of residence. Maybe you mean arigatou not hariato. Or that it's one of those words that I haven't known yet. I write better than speak. The reason is my more than 20 yrs here although there were several intermittent visits to my home country, I haven't use the language regularly. I was introduced to the computer in 2009 and from then on did some comments and blogs in English and right now I have a Brazilian co worker who also want to practice her English so in a daily basis gets to use it. The buildings here are tenement like in structure and they are for renting only. Nice knowing that there are places that such things are done. I mean apts sold by the govt to the tenants. Thanks for sharing!bouquet
