I am thinking

Of selling my 1998 model NEC video cassette recorder. It is Y2K compliant and can be connected to the stereo system with a cable. But on the other hand maybe I should hold on to it. In fact I have changed my mind now its not for sale, so bad luck.

workmates

have you ever in situation with some of your workmates where you have to tell them about same thing over and over again about how and why things should be done the way it is as per SOP to get the operational running smooth?

it's very frustrating and I'm wondering was I not clear to direct them or they aren't to interest to learn more as they are comfortable as it is now with concept "don't care as long as paycheck keep coming playball "
how to build some of them to be more responsible and have the feeling of ownership when on duty?

I'm at the point of "whatever" when the manager said to me "you can't give up on them"

Is there a new way to market stuff?

Oh I know my timing sucks, the weekend and all, I should have asked when you all had your business brains on. Still, those who haven't disconnected them yet -

Can you think of a new and fresh way to market something in a flooded and saturated market? I'm interested for books, but marketing is marketing, other products could have a fresh new angle that could be twisted. Whether you're selling holidays, cars, double-glazing, yourself, clothes, or pebbles you picked up on the beach and lovingly hand-polished ...

There's nothing new under the sun but sometimes a fresh look from an outsider can spark a new idea. I'm not, I promise, going to market anything at you, I want YOUR ideas.

Summary so far, the freshest ideas -

From Ish #1 'message in a bottle' advertising (roping in the international CS community)

From Ish #2 lingerie and even doll lingerie to catch the eye

(and Non-smoker is up for a fish 'n chips date with any female who buys a promoted book handshake)

Imported Goods controversy

There is still much controversy about whether or not cheaper imported goods are of quite the same quality as the ones made here in the USA or once made here. When it comes to tools, some maintain the cheap imported tools are made of metals either too soft or improperly heat treated. Others argue that although some Americans may have suffered 'temporary' losses of income when the local factories laid them off so the manufacture could take place in far away lands, the over all benefit to the consumer outweighs the local economic setbacks and the overall quality of the tool is not lessened. These folk maintain they feel the same confidence holding a tool marked made in XXXX as they did holding a tool bearing the Made in the USA stamp.

So someone went to a local Walmart and purchased a crescent wrench which was not made in America. Surely this new lower cost tool would give every consumer confidence their new purchase was the equal of the older tools.

SMUGGLING

Old joke - I hate people who take drugs. Like Customs officials.

Smuggling is bad, smuggling affects the economy of your country, it's a naughty thing to do. It has also been a UK tradition since about 2 days after the first introduction of import tax, boats whisking back and forth across the Channel by dead of night, Customs officials hurriedly created, and a very quiet war has raged ever since.

I smuggle one thing - cigs. I've been caught once, and had 5 cartons confiscated very mad but on the whole I was lucky and my last few trips to the Continong have been to countries in the EU, where you can bring back as much as you are likely to need to turn your lungs into kippered flappy bits of cardboard. smoking

Since I was in Spain in March, and in Portugal in April, it's been a while since I had to buy at UK prices. My last carton had packets of 20 cigs, from Portugal, with the price pre-stamped on them, 4.20 euros, so the carton was 42 euros. That's Portuguese law, the price is set by the government across all brands. hug

So I bought this morning - 68 smackers for a carton of 10 packets.

Now guess how many cigs there are in each packet. Go on. Guess.

SEVENTEEN. very mad

So I guess I'm about to turn smuggler. That's just GREEDY, Britain. GREEDY.

SOS Advise Please

I thought i sent the wrong forms 3 times and they would not select me but I've just receive a call from the embassy for coming and doing a test tomorrow.

Unfortunately, tomorrow we have to travel on business trip and the embassy only organizes the test once only. they said out of so many applications, they only select a few.... what should i do what should i do?

I love my current job, my boss, my colleagues, the freedom and respect i have but it is so hard to turn away from the tempting and challenging new space...and the States, my dream since i was a student. Oh no, i was happy that they did not call earlier as i thought i failed and no need to struggle myself to take it or leave it. now what should i do? frustrated

I can't leave my boss alone tomorrow as i will feel guilty running after another opportunity and not fulfilling my responsibilities for which i have enjoyed many benefits sigh

But i don't want to let go such a unique opportunity that so many people dream of. doh

OMG what decision should i make now? tomorrow is very near huhu. If you were me what would you do? blues
