As the Easter Holiday rapidly approaches, I wonder if anyone actually does anything to commemorate Palm Sundayconfused Please, if you are against this "holiday", move on. Let's not get into a religious debate or name calling, O.K.?? Just wondering if this day has or ever held any significance for you????

When I was a child and went to the Catholic church they used to give each person a palm to take home. My mom would put it on the corner of a picture until it dried out too much and had to be thrown away.

I'm asking about Palm Sunday...not Easter.

I know that as a kid, we were all given a palm branch to bring home, and those with craft skill would make little crosses ot of the palms.

I do not remember that much more about palm sunday except it was to represent Jesus when he rode on the donkey and palms were placed down before him. I have not gone to a Catholic church in many years.

Palm Sunday is not just acknowledged by Catholics. It is a religious holiday for many religions.

I went to my Late Husband's Family Church today. He was Catholic, I am a Messianic Jew. For my Faith, Palm Sunday is also Important but I had forgotten it was even Palm Sunday. They passed out Palm lesves.

John, used to make a cross out of both of ours when we were Married. The Priest handed me two. I will try to make a cross like he did.

I love the great joy of the crowd greeting Jesus as they waved Palm branches before Him during His entry into Jerusalem. The New Testament event of Jesus entering Jerusalem as King and being honored by the crowds with the waving of the Palms reminds me of a scripture in Revelation with similiar imagery. In both scenerios the crowd (God's people, the Church) is jubilant and full of praise before Jesus, Who alone is worthy as the Eternal Lamb Who takes away the sins of the world.

According to Jewish tradition the Palm Branch was a symbol of triumph and victory. Palm Sunday derives much of its meaning in the use of the Palm branches and the final triumph of Christ entering Jerusalem (or the Heavenly City) as King and Lord of all.

I used to love it as a child Ship, I really got caught up in the religious fervour of it all. We used to have a sign of the cross made from ashes on our foreheads which was done by the priest at the altar and carry around the palm frond crosses for days thingking about Jesus dying for our sins - at that time, the rest of it was all just too far over my head.........

Here in Spain this is a very special day and starts the "Semana Santa" which is their Holy Week with religious processions which are absolutely beautiful, and you don't have to be religious to enjoy the pageantry of it all though it is very moving.
