In the United States most states require us to use a headset for our cell phone and wear seat belts when driving.

Up until recently, the police couldn't stop us just for not using a headset or seatbelt, but the laws have changed, and now we can get a ticket for each offense.

Do you have laws like this in your country?

Yep, I do. I don't have a headset. If I have to make a call, I pull over to the side of the road.

A couple years ago I was quite obese and couldn't use my seatbelt cause it wouldn't go around me. I knew I was taking a chance but I had no choice.

Now that I've lost the weight yay I use my seatbelt.

The thing I don't understand, maybe someone who is in law enforcement can explain it to me is, people who have cordless phones in their car hold the receiver and aren't affected by the law.

What is the difference of holding a cordless phone or a cell phone.

The person still has only one hand on the steering wheel.

I think I didn't make my question clear...my fault.

When a person is holding a cordless phone, that is built into the car, they won't get a ticket, but the person who holds a cell phone, will get a ticket.

The corless phone requires the person to hold the phone so one hand is on the wheel same as a cell phone.

That's no more dangerous than talking to someone in your passenger seat. Next thing, we won't be allowed to have more than one person in a car. doh

Not everywhere has that law, though they are trying very hard to make it work.
Makes sense to me though.
They did just pass a distracted driver law, the first person who got his ticket here was caught eating a bowl of noodle soup while driving.

Not much different then where you are. PA just passed a law that allows people to be fined for being on the phone without a hands free device.

Hi Snugs.

It is against the law to use a hand held cell phone whilst driving.

It is against the law to not be wearing a seat belt front and rear.

Same in the United Kingdom.
