Nevertheless the law, the Police keeps persecuting drug addicts. No coffee shops there, apparent liberalisation, but the police keeps chasing places and people that allegedly sell them. In Lisbon, at Bairro Alto- the bars neighbourhood, for example, we see it all the time. If so it is in the capital, worse it is in other districts. Lisbon is by far a privileged town... The assistance they get there is not different from what they get here, in The Netherlands.

Legalize, hell yeah. The effect makes sense.
I had a feeling you would enter this Cris and nice to have an insider view on that.
If people are selling, surely the authorities are trying to clamp down on money gained 'under the table' If all the drugs are decriminalised, surely being in possession of them now, since 2001 would be like carrying a packet of cigarettes?
bodleing: Yes, you have to applaud the powers that be in Portugal for being bold enough to give it a try. What remains to be seen is if any other countries follow suit.
Indeed Graham, I certainly do any country that is bold enough to undertake such a task. Which can by no means be easy. That being said the health results look good and of course here is hoping that the country is a cleaner one for all it's residents and of course the crime has dropped too. I fail to recognise how that at all can be a bad thing.

Honey, I haven't heard the selling was legal there...no way! It should be, if it's decriminalised! The measure was only thought for the heavy ones to get assistance. They now fall in the cathegory of sick ones, they get shots for free. It's good because it avoids disturbance aiming at getting the doses. But that, in practice is allowed here. Actually, many Dutch permissive eccentricities aren't legalised but tolerated. So does happened even with Euthanasia.
We need practical decriminalisation. It's more efficient!
Especially since it has to come before the People as a referendum,or the people can collect 100'000 Signatures and force a Referendum to legalize or at least decriminalize whatever Substance they think proper.

I need this explaining to me in more depth. So forgive me, I sometimes don't grasp what people are saying when I have to really concentrate in English.
The substances are no longer illegal? Correct? Therefore, I would assume and correct me if I am wrong, that the selling of the substances would have to be sold by a licenced seller, like with an alcohol licence? So if the people are chasing sellers as you have written, then surely it is not for the selling of illegal substances, it can't be because of the decriminilisation of the substances. It can only be another offence/s such as no licence to sell or selling and declaring all monies earned. If it is decriminalised is it only on perscription and unable to sell like tobacco and alcohol? Or only available on prescription?
