Pull out a chair for a lady, hold the door for a woman, place the hand on the small of the woman's back as they walk along, open car doors for a lady? Or do some think this belongs in another era back when men rode horses and ladies wore petticoats. I have found that a lot of younger men here no longer do these things, its not behaviour that seems to passed down to them. What about the older generation of men do they still feel a need to do this kind of stuff? Do women still appreciate having them done? Comments please.wine

Of course!

I certainly do. My mother trained me that women were equal but you should carry their bags and open doors for them.

In this equal rights enviroment which most women strive for. It`s the (Women) who are not adjusting to the do things yourself mode of equal rights. Men used to be the primary breadwinners who respected their women for the work they did at home, and men were respected for the hard work and loyalty they gave to their families. Respect for others has been thrown out the window. It seems that the trend is look out for yourself because no one is going to help you. IMO..When everyone is equal..Respect seems not needed. If the President was equal to everyone...by this i mean that he roamed around without security like most Mayors do of cities daily. Does the President command more respect than a Mayor or a major city? YES! WHY, because he is of greater importance. When you have people that are equal. You don`t generally give them respect. It`s nice to have the door opened for oneself, a bill paid for dinner, or a dinner made by someone else. Do these things for ALL people, ALL the time. Women, it works both ways. Open a door for a man, Men..open a door for a women. Women, ask a man out on a date and pay THEIR way. I personally leave doors open for men AND women no matter the gender. I try to be the best person I can be for myself EVERYDAY!

I'm an old school and do all the things you mention and more. Nothing will change me from treating people the way my Mother and Father taught me and how I want to treat people.

Most of the MEN I know were brought up this, as I was myself, but I find now-a-days ,that its the FEMALES who are taking for granted , men who open doors, and pull out chairs , and STAND when a LADY is either sitting at, or leaving a table.
I guess the "boys" you are referring to have been slighted enough , that they have lossed that gracious behaviour...
Cheers

tainogirl: So you gave all the women you had relationships with your credit card? Sorry I wouldn't know about that, I've never gone shopping with any man's credit card and frankly I don't own one.
