In the past, I loved American music but these days the pop industry chiefs seem to force up and coming groups to follow a formula. Pretty boring really. There is creativity out there but it's being stifled. A bit like Hollywood.

I completely agree. While the pop industry booms creativity and originality get put on the back burner because the record comp wants to make money. I tend to stick to rock more because creativity is not frowned upon there but there have been a few artists recently that show tremendous talent if they can gain control of their career.
