I have read a few times here how some speak how we as a people are "sheep" when it comes to our goverment and we just follow along and make no waves and how we all should think for ourselves and not be a part of the "pack mentality" in this world. Now this bring me to something that puzzles me...everyone on these and other forums seem to agree it is all very bad to be this way and to never trush the goverment and never just "go along", but I see this happen everyday here and in another forum as well.....so are we "free thinkers" here on CS or are we only "sheep" that want to think we are not. Lets face it there is a deep rooted "pack mentality" here and on other forums. So in closing "Pratice what you preach" people. grin How you like me now? laugh

I think it is just an element of human nature for some. They need to be in a team or group, or support a team, to be with like minded peoples to avoid confrontation or to be at least supported when one arises. Religion is the ultimate example. IMO.

I have often wondered about this. I have been around a few online communities. And there is often a pack mentality not unlike in primary school. It seems like people come together by segregating others. Cement your own position in the pack by pushing another from it.

Here's what I think (and I can only speak for myself)I do follow a pack - a pack of ONE. I have no clique and would not care to be part of one,I always speak my mind and will continue to do so. It aint a popularity contest - but maybe for some it is. I came here to meet people and have my say - period. I'm nobody's baa baa.dancing

I for one have never been a good little sheep. I agree with you on pack mentality and think it is a survival instinct. Packing together with others means more safety. I guess in other times I may not have survived as I have a tendency to go it alone.laugh There are also negative social consequences to not being a good little sheep. Sociologists call them sanctions. There has been a lot of research done on "group think" and how dangerous it is.

I'm more of a 'Lone Ranger' type.
I see something wrong and I'll say so.
If it goes against the grain of the 'pack', so be it.
It is not my aim to insult or bear down on someone, rather to be honest and true to myself.
A lot of people can't take that, their problem.

First off... I´m not a big fan of the "go along to get along" philosophy, saying that, I´ll also say that there is a huge difference between finding a few like minded people who think and feel the same about things that you do and blindly following a government because that´s what has been drilled into you.

While we all like to think of ourselves as completely unique and individual... there is always someone else out there that has similar views and attitudes to us... it´s natural to gravitate towards people who have these attributes and can appear to create a "pack mentality". There is nothing wrong with this providing that you stay true to your beliefs and don´t go along to get along.

To me... the problems occur when people blindly believe and adopt views and opinions with out taking the time to learn, research and form their own opinions.
