Country Singer Neil McCoy lives in Longview, and also singer/comic Rodney Carrington, and Actor Matthew McConaughey went to school in Longview. Several pro football players, I don't know of any famous bands.

I grew up near Chicago. A LOT of bands came from Chicago. google Chess Records some time. There were a bunch of successful small record labels like that in the old days. I think they're gone now.
