I think when its my time then that is the way it was suppose to be. I also think that we make choices that affect the quality of our life but not the length of it grin

I suppose most of the things are determined in life by Karman. everything is the result of "Karma" .Karma determin what you are going to be in your life. . this can be applied to our current life and the incarnations you can have . we cannot isolate ourselves from our karma .it binds us all

Choices are the most important decisions you will ever make.
Choose to hang out with the wrong crowd and you may end up graduating to the activities that will bring you face to face with a judge.
Choose to live alone and talk to no-one, most likely, you won't meet anyone.

Fate is a convenient excuse used by people who forget the choices they made earlier on.

I believe many of the choices we make will effect the end result. So one could argue pre-determination based on choice. I was meant to be where I am, because I made certain choices that lead me here.

Yes, there is a thing as "fate", a lot Chinese believe.

Maybe somebody who is very strong or brave can change it but not easy. That's my opinion.

If one tend to repeat their actions... Yeah there's fate. The only thing that's pre-determined is the results from repeated actions. Sooo... Mix it up a little and get something new.

I believe that all has already been decided. That is, everything that ever was, is now, and ever will be, is, right now. It already exists, has always existed, and will always exist, and it never, ever cannot be.

Ultimate reality can be explained using, as an analogy, something familiar to all of us - the CD Rom. On the disc of computerised games is every outcome that you can imagine. You can sit down and play the game any way you like. You make a move and the computer responds. The response is certain and it is predictable. Every time you make that move, under those exact same circumstances, the computer will respond exactly the same way. Yet there are an infinite number of possible moves, and, therefore, possible outcomes - all of which already exist on the disc, ready to be played out.
This is of course a very rough analogy, but it works, in that it helps us to understand how it could be possible for every outcome in the universe to already exist, and yet remain to be chosen and experienced. If you think modern computer technology is incredible, wait until you see the technology of the universe!
What remains to be understood is the mechanism by which the "game" is played. How do we choose, and produce, our outcomes? And all of that is easy to learn. You can get to know and understand how you are answering, right now, in every single moment, whether you are doing it consciously or unconsciously, the only question in life that really matters is " Who am I? "

I agree. Fate is an excuse. "life was predetermined, I had no choice in abducting that child or raping that woman"...take responsiblity for your actions. Karma? I have NEVER seen Karma work in my life...I have met the most evil of people who are doing just fine and the most wonderful people who are suffering like most of us cannot imagine.

I suppose this will start something, another religious thread (not needed) but I say , God gave us free will, so NO, life and fate are not pre-determined. We are what we make of ourselves. dunno

Interesting. Who do you think preplanned all of this? Who is the inventor of the 'game'?

Think of Events as more-or-less Probable, but the only 100% events are those which have occured.
A coin toss is a simple event and easy to desrcibe in terms of possible outcomes. No one need imagine that EACH toss is pre-ordained.
In fact observation and measurement makes complex events Predictable..
PROBABILITY and DETERMINIISM are not the same. This is your issue.
