Logic tells us this.
but we are built differently not only physically but mentally as well. that would be one of the reasons why 5ft people don’t play basketball professionally.

so you don’t have as many choices as you think.
True, there are limitations, but.... That is only the limitation of your mind.
Say if you could jump higher than all those others, don't you think you could make the team?
You have already set yourself up (in your mind) for failure on that.
Now, you might think you are the world's best bowler simply because you are closer to the floor!
galaxy15: Choices are the most important decisions you will ever make. Choose to hang out with the wrong crowd and you may end up graduating to the activities that will bring you face to face with a judge. Choose to live alone and talk to no-one, most likely, you won't meet anyone.
Fate is a convenient excuse used by people who forget the choices they made earlier on. cheers galaxy
YOU have predetermined your fate. I think the thread is that "IS OUR FATE PREDERMINED BY ANOTHTER"? Yes/no?
If YOU have made the decision you can or can't do something, that is not predetermined fate. That is defeatism.
la, la, la.....
but on you scenario then we would all be the same which we are not.
and is our faith is predetermined by another again yes it would have to be. first law of physics- for every action there is a equal and opposite reaction and thats what all life function on actions and reactions.

Exactly! For every ACTION there is a postitve and equal REACTION.
So, say you make a choice to ....
Oh, pick something....
A CHOICE - you choose to go to college...what happens next?
A CHOICE - you drop out of school at 6th grade -- what happens next?
A HIGHER POWER DID NOT MAKE THOSE CHOICES FOR YOU. You made the decision. There will be a reaction to your actions. You made the decision on what to do.
I would really liked to have thought that I was master of my own destiny but I have my doubts. Sometimes in liofe I've felt that I've come to a cross roads and that a decision has to be made on which direction to take. There seems to be a natural choice which from time to time I have either been too stubborn or too frightened to take so I pass on through or so I think. Then at some later point, and this can be years later, I find myself back at the same crossroads. The people and the situation have changed but the choice of path is the same. So if I'm honest, I do believe my path is predetermined. There seems to be a sream of life and things go better when I follow it.
AsleepInNJ: do the choices we make in our life affect the end result or is everything pre-determined? is there such a thing as 'fate'? discuss.
Up to some degree, up to what is known by our faulty knowledge, there must be some determinism: To give an example of that just think of the information we carry in our DNA, not just mere coding to synthetise new proteins but much more: mental structure, feelings, compatibilities or incompatibilities with other people, abilities or disabilities, and much more for sure. It is true that most of this information has not been able to be characterised and written in scientific terms by current biology- which is more directed to study bio-chemical processes and its interaction with the whole organic machine- and probably we will have to wait until a new scientific revolution by which we can convey more mysteries of the universe, but it is just enough to have a look at the tendencies in ourselves given by ancestry to realise in which way we are determined -at least from that angle- Well, that is only one example of many more. I think life always gives us new manifestations of this pre-determination but certainly just little snap-shots, nobody knows what is the degree of those hidden forces and certainly by learning about them a little bit would make us more humble in all our stupid pretentions as a species, especially about those pretentions that picture human beings as "free builders of their destiny". I suppose that statement must then be part of our being strongly pre-determined, namely, pre-determined to be infinitely stupid and arrogant.

It is LOGICAL.

we are definitely not on the same line of thought here. We are all born with natural abilities some with undutiful and obvious ones like a 6 year old pianist
then there are others who find our natural predetermined abilities later, some perhaps never. And of course things like accidents cause by other alter our lives as well as relationships, some of those things we have no control over and its not always our choice.
No, you just have not found yours yet. YOU have a talent too. Maybe thos people are great pianist or great poets, but maybe you are a great builder or a great person with kids. Never sell yourself short my dear!

Again, it's not fate. It is a decision.
How do you know my voice?
you’ve been fining your posts with la..la…la and I have a great imagination.
In response to: do the choices we make in our life affect the end result or is everything pre-determined? is there such a thing as 'fate'? discuss.
I do believe that our lives are pre-determined. Yet, we have "free will" which can alter that outcome. I believe that each person was made for a reason. Although it is up to us to follow or do our own thing and that is where "free will" comes into play. We are not robots walking the Earth. I do also believe we have a set day to die. Which does not mean be dumb either. It is kind of a mystery.

so if we have a set date to die how can we have free will? no matter we do we'll still die on that die if what you say is true.
as i have said before i believe our lives are pre-determined and although it may seem as if we are exerting our free will as we make choices along the way those choices were already pre-determined so it only seems like we were making our own choices.
