And just maybe if you and the other 40% who didn't bother turning out and voting NO...It may not have been voted IN..

You had the right to vote but refused..So your opinion counts for nothing.

Jan1305: I remain optimistic about the future of Europe, and over 67% of voters in Ireland clearly feel the same.

Perhaps this time around the voters were more educated about the complex issues in the Treaty, and realised that it is fundamentally about reform, enabling the machinations of Europe to work more efficiently and democratically.

The Charter of Fundamental Rights, requiring all EU law to be compliant with human rights law, is for me one of the most important things in the Treaty. This will extend the rights of EU citizens in so many areas such as education, freedom of thought, equality before the law, and workers rights such as the collective bargaining and collective action.

Ireland has benefited enormously from its EU membership, and is viewed as a model to other more recent member countries, who hope they too will benefit in the same way.

Hi Jan wave

No the voters were no more informed than the last time round about the complexity of the issue, and as a matter of fact 90% of the politicians arnt either ( info from a once close friend - Chairman of the German FDP party now sadly deceased)

Yes i agree the CFR is an important issue any where in europe unfortunately is not respected by some of the old communist countries or oriental contries for their own unlogical or ethical reasoning.

In the last 20 years eire is the only country in the EU block that has benefited from the EU but only due to the gi normous subsidies that have been poured into it. Now the subsidies have been reduced considerably the companies that once were situated there mainly in the Cork area are pulling out to mainland Europe which will cause the Cork area sooner or later to become no longer a viable area to invest in.

Macedonia, Croatia, among others are on their way to the EU. Negotiations are being held...including with Turkey. Do you guys think that after all the negotiations, Europeans will be asked about the expansion? That would frustrate expectations. Something against Negotiation principals.
