It's easy to look at all the tasks and unsolved problems and feel so pressured that we get paralyzed and don't get anything done. It takes discipline to gather in our scattered forces and focus on one thing, one day, one step, and sometimes one hour – even when taking only that one step can seem so trivial in the face of all that looms.

Inventory Focus:
Are you creating unnecessary fear and drama by taking on more than you handle? Are you willing to trade in the I'm-out-of-control-and-overwhelmed feeling for a sense of manageability? Do you have any history with deliberately living life one day or one step at a time? How did that work?

Plans, goals, and dreams are good, but the only way to get there is one day at a time.

I have my plans and goals for the long run, but I take life and the journey there one day (and sometimes one hour or one minute) at a time. It works well. bouquet

I truly love these, Pat. Thank you for sharing them with us...they make me check to see if I'm still living life the right way. hug

Thank you, how fitting for us today...my son, who battles a severe mood disorder, also battles drug addiction and sought out his drug of choice when the meds were not controlling his anxiety. The result - drug induced paranoid, delusional psychosis. Today he was released from the hospital and wants to fix it all...now! Before I read this, I explained to him the one step at a time idea...one minute at a time. Yes, we are providing him with the tools to recovery and hope that he will choose to attend a good program and seek a strong sponsor...oh, and his drug of choice...the "harmless; just pot".angel

For almost 2 decades my family had to live life one day (sometimes one hour) at a time. It wasn't fun. We had to become hermits basically. My ex survived 5 head injuries during our 23-year marriage and became unrecognizable as the husband and father my girls and I knew. It was easier to become hermits than to deal with his problems in public. I made sure my girls had a life, but mine was a solitary life with an adult child. It would have been wonderful to be able to plan anything, but alas, such was not to be.

Now that I have the freedom to make any plans I want, I find that just taking each day as it comes is less stressful for me. I plan very little and suffer fewer disappointments when plans don't work out. I have a lot of long-range goals and plans, but living could take me down so many different paths, all of them unknown. I'll get where I'm going eventually, but until then I'll simply enjoy the journey. Roads are for journeys, not destinations. I'm on the road!
