I'll certainly join you in your rememberance and your prayers. These people are heroes as they risk their lives daily to help keep our communities a little safer.
seekndestroy: it sure is a thankless job... many of them start to get the "us vs everyone" mentallity after a while of hearing nothing but negative stuff about their profession.... and im sure at some point that may get to some of them.... !!!
much like people get upset and tired of hearing "all men/women are _______ (fill in the blank)"

and that is exactly why i started this thread....
we ALWAYS hear the negative, when they screw up or when things just go wrong and people are quick to blame them for stuff that happens to them or to others....
i just think because of all the negativity it is just as important that those same people get a little dose of reality sometimes, so that maybe they can see the "other" side of the coin....
i know we expect them to be superhuman, to make flawles split second decisions, to save everyone and to prevent bad stuff from happening... but rarely do we understand why things happen the way they do and rarely do we take the time or the opportunity to ask why they do what they do and act how they act...
... im just hoping that this may allow some to see a little of that "other" side and that they are just as human and just as flawed as the rest of us !!!

I would hate their job , all the different situations that they are expected to attend. We recently had a rememberance day service for all the police officers in Australia who have died in the line of duty & honestly I didnt know there were as many as there were.

well it certainly is not your regular 9-5 thats for sure...
i happen to be fairly familiar with it and it definitely has its intricacies (just like any other job) the only difference is the potential outcome of every little thing they do... basically every decision can easily be a life or death one... for them or for others.... and that responsibility is what makes their job so challenging me thinks !!!

seekndestroy: just picture this:
you are sitting on the side of the road, in your car doing your job, when suddely another call pulls up next to you and without warning the occupant/s open fire.... the only motive that makes any sense? because your car says "police" on its side...
no its not a movie or a fictional story, this just happened here on Halloween....
i know we hate them, they are pigs after all. they are all corupt and mean (and the fact that they deal with the scum of society is not a valid excuse to be always guarded right?), plus that's what they chose to do, getting beaten, stabbed and shot at comes with the territory... wanting to go home to their families in the same condition as they went to work should NOT be a reasonable expectation for them right?
... still the human side of me cant help it but feel pain sorrow and a significant amount of anger for such brazen act... i know this happens to non-cops all too often but when a man in uniform is targeted like this, i think it shows not just disregard for the law but for human life and society in general.. i mean hell if you are willing to take out a cop.... a civilian would almost be child's play no?
in any case.. i just wanted to honor a fallen hero, who took an oath to protect those who, albeit hateful for his undertaking, are regularly targeted by savage, worthless complete wastes of oxygen....i pray for his family and those who proudly keep fighting the good fight and for their safety
Hey SND, My Dad, his dad and my stepdad were all policemen. Believe me its a TOUGH JOB - and an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ONE. Out here a lot of Policemen are targeted for their guns by criminals. While many respect the role of the policeman - others do not. This could be someone's dad, son, brother, friend, etc.. its a life that cannot be replaces.

amen sista... amen !!!!
it certainly is a sad state of affairs when people have such disregard for life !!!!
I know sometimes cops do not always do the right thing, but for the most part, they got a job I would not want. So yes this officer and his family has my prayers.

ture that... i wish i could say that they do no wrong but unfortunately that is not the truth..... problem is, as with anything else, that people tend to equate one bad apple to an entire basket of rotten ones.... funny thing is the more we accuse them of whatever the more defensive they get and the less likely that they are to want to help when help is needed.... so maybe a little support and appreciation for their efforts may go a long way to better the relationships between community and law enforcement.... lately many departments have made efforts to open the lines of communication but sometimes it seems that they are expected to reach out but the public is not !!!!! sounds rather one sided to me....

My sorrow for your co-workers, SND. And my respect has always been with those heroes who choose to face danger every day to try to protect the rest of us...the soldiers, the cops, the firemen...bless you all for what you do every day.

Sweetie, some of the best cops are the ones who were rebels and troublemakers in their youth. And I'd say you damned well do qualify because you're willing to do it, and your heart's in the right place. (Shhh....I promise I won't tell anyone, though, okay? )
My family is full of law enforcement officials, mostly FBI. My great-grandfather was one of the original founders of it. An uncle of mine was chief of police in his city, after years working undercover in narcotics. And both of my sons want to go to college for it, and become cops and then go into the FBI...I told them it's in their blood, so I wasn't surprised.
Very Sad Story,, and possibly further testimony to the need for stricter gun controls. ( which I have mixed feelings towards ) Food for thought anyway ..........
