somechick: As most of you know I lost my husband acouple years ago because of lung cancer and it was a very sad time for me but I managed to get through it.
This last year I began my own home based business and buried myself in my work and began volunteering part time in a nursing home near my home by serving the residents who reside there holiday meals which keeps me pretty occupied so I'm not dwelling soley on my loss. This holiday season I'll most likely be doing the very same thing as last year helping out at the nursing home.
Good for you somechick sure you will make a difference to the people you are around this Holiday season
stefonline: I can relate to all of that morgan.....and it is just any other day.....the only thing is I have a younger daughter and she gets so excited about it so it's only fair to show some excitement back for her.....
steve6610: Im so sorry to hear that my thoughts are with you though
Steve, I am not sure about Boban1's specific religion but the Russian Orthodox religion celebrates Christmas on January 6th or 7th. (Sorry, I can’t remember which). It was the Roman Catholics that started the tradition of celebrating Christmas on December 25 because they wanted to take advantage of the Saturnalia celebrations and lead the pagan celebration with on wholly devoted to their god.
Well, I will probably be with you guys and gals for Christmas. My family usually celebrates on Christmas Eve with a dinner, then we all go our separate ways. I usually celebrate Christmas morning with my son, then he goes to his father's house. Then I am all alone for however long. When I used to work, I would just schedule my days there to keep me busy. This year I will be out on break from school and just hanging around the house. So, I will probably find something here to keep me busy. It doesn't bother me to spend the holiday alone, though. I have for years.
three years ago got a xmas gift from the G/F and a card saying she would be late but i can open the present.
i did and it contained a note Happy christmas the relationship is over.
well i rang her thinking it was a joke, no it wasnt and god that day i burnt the turkey
every year i get a present i always remember those words
so i may take myself on holiday again
That was just mean of her to do that. I hate to say it, but she probably did you a favor by leaving. Doesn't sound like someone to be in a relationship with.

morgan5: Thats pretty much how i feel, so many people get into debt trying to provide this Wonderful Day and buy presents for their children they just can't afford, because of the hyoe and pressure placed on them, my daughter started stressing in November!
So many spend it alone its truly sad, we can keep each other company here
Christmas is what YOU make it. Can't allow others to dictate that you should drive yourself into debt over a holiday. Sure I might buy my daughter a present but do you think that is the most important thing to her? Of course not - nothing is more important than knowing that her mummy loves her and that's good enough for me. She'll be spending the holidays with her dad this year but I'm hoping next year we can have our fun together, decorating, shopping, baking and generally getting up to all sorts of mischief.

Yes, it is Taino but for alot of people past events make it a sad a lonely time.
No, I don't think for a second gifts compensate for love but when a parent is unable to buy the gifts their child would love, they often feel they are letting them down and it causes huge amounts of stress.
From what i have seen living in different countries, maybe the pressure and hype surrounding Christmas, varies from country to country.
Room, room, brave gallants all, and give us room to rhyme! We come to show activity about this wintertime. The roots of our great festival lie hidden at the base Of Ygdrasil, the World Tree, and these for you I'll trace.
At Hanukkah the lights do blaze for eight nights and a day And Maccabees do celebrate midwinter victory. Saint George shall come and die by swords that circle round his neck As winter dies, so shall he die, and then to life like spring. In Sweden, Saint Lucia brings her little Christmas Jul, And Saturnalia brings from Rome the ancient Feast of Fools.
A star shone over Bethlehem to guide the wise men three And in Japan it's time to cut your Kado Matsu tree. In the pueblos of New Mexico they dance the matachin And light the luminaria to guide the wise men in.
For African-Americans, it's Kwanza time tonight For seven spirit principles to show the inner light. For the Iroquois, the snow-snakes are the game of winter feasts Where Big Heads go a-visiting to banish winter's beast.
In northern lands around the world the fires are alight To drive away the darkness on this, the longest night. We bid you carol with us, sing wassail every one Now, welcome in the New Year and summon up the sun!
Christmas means I'll be living on Spaghetti (it used to be bread but £1.30 a LOAF!) and water till I've finished paying for the kids presents (which will probably be some time February)
