Are any if you planning to Fast in January?

What type of Fast are you doing and for what purpose and for how long?

Have you fasted before?

I would like us to share and encourage one another in our Fasting.

Hi Zellwave
Many have found themselves in this same situation!
Detoxification is very important to the body.
Perhaps beginning a fast by eating raw fruits and vegetables and drinking juices for the first 3 days, then switching to only juices for the next 5 would be easier to make it through a first time fast.

I believe that if we can encourage one another thru emails, etc.
during the fast, it can help us to stay on our fast.
Maybe if you had such a friend at the time, it would have worked better for you?hug

People fast for different reasons, Morgan.
Fasting cleanses the body of toxins.
A juice fast actually adds nutrition to the cells, to make them healthier. Some do this type of fasting for cleansing and gaining nutrients.

Some fast for religious purposes such as to honour certain Holy Days. Others do it with a purpose in mind, to receive a particular answer to prayer, such as praying for a Nation in trouble, requesting God's intervention.

Some fast to cleans their body and lose weight, which adds to their being Healthy.

You don't only have to fast from eating foods. Some people fast watching TV, excluding it from their schedule. CS addicts could fast CS!conversing How many will go for that??dunno

Fasting can be cleansing to the body, mind and soul.

What other animal purposely fasts? I cannot think of one, nature rather than religion should rule our lives, and it is natural to eat every day.
Fasting causes shock to the system, we require food for energy.
A far better idea surely, is to stop eating crap fast food and eat a wholesome diet, which includes vegetables, fruit and meat/fish. dunno

Ohh .. our fast, according to the Islamic calender is over. But I would love to fast with you.
We normally fast for 29-30 days, depending on the new moon, and eat just before sunrise, and don't eat of drink anything till sunset. (Not a drop). But apart from this detoxification, giving charity is compulsory, as well as not lying, committing any sins, gossiping, or malicious intent and the like.

Tell me more about your fast - why are you fasting? It's rather interesting.

Yes unfortunately people simply turn the day into night and vice versa.. and eat all night. HOW they can eat so much is beyond me. After a few days your stomach starts to shrink - but we have been doing it since we were 8-10 years old. In the middle east and turkey, India and pakistan .. i know that there is so much fuss abotu food that it defeats the purpose.. too much greasy foods.
I use that opportunity to inculcate good eating habits, and after sunrise, we eat a simple meal, pray and eating is done for the day. Time to sleep and be ready to get up before dawn. gluttony really defeats the purpose.

Bears hibernating use the fat they built up by overeating when food was in good supply, they don't fast in order to "De-Tox" but rather to sit out the cold weather .

Nesting birds are fed by their mate, check out "Nature Watch" on the BBC it showed how the pair of breeding birds supported each other, if their is a lack of available food, then yes of course the parent will sacrifice their food in favour of the young.

Neither case is a forced fast due to a notion that by not eating they will suddenly become healthy.

wave Yes, it might have worked better if I'd done my fasting the t'other way round. Instead of just drinking cold water in the middle of December for 6 hours cold

I did actually do it with a friend. She was preparing herself for a charity trek in India so wanted to lose a bit of weight and feel very fit and healthy.

She did manage to stick to the liquids for 3 days then went on the detox diet of porridge and fruits etc. She lost 11 lbs, completed the trek and looked really healthy. Although, I've no idea if she kept the weight off and healthy eating plan up as she was a workmate and I changed jobs and lost touch with her. santa waving

I had an Asian secretary who became ill after one particular fast, she just kept loosing weight even after the end of the fast, she just found she could not keep food down, took over a month for her to regain some weight and several months before she could work.
During Fasts now she always eats during the day. Just small amounts but often.wave

Well, I still think it's a stupid idea!

Some people do Fast as has already been said, but it's not 100% abstenation, just timing...so really, they don't Fast at all.

Your vision is limited and extremely biased to support your view. I accept this.

Fasting is not forced, but chosen in this case. Forced would be like crashing in antarctica and having no supplies.

Whether chosen or not any fast, or absence of food intake results in some detoxing, hopefully the creature fasting for whatever reason PREPARES for such activity by storing up as bears do or by drinking water as humans do.

You might want to look up what fasting is. It is not only a 'religious notion' which seems to be the crux of your bias. I'm sure this lady drives a vehicle as well, that doesn't mean that parking it (because it would break down if run interminably)is religious.

cheers
