It is all about frequency and why we perceive things to be the way they are.

jvaski: The only tangible evedence that God exists is people shouting his name ............

besides.........if there was a God, would he treat his own children as he has in Haiti ?

This would assume that if there is a god, he/she/it would only do what you think is good stuff. confused

scoutmaster: If athiests are right and there is no God and no life after death then when we die we will all end up the same, believers and non believers alike, nothing to loose and nothing to gain.

Nothing to let go of? You can't take it with you because you can't hold onto it anyway.

scoutmaster: If believers are right, then believers go to heaven and non believers go to hell, so by believing you have nothing to loose but everything to gain, and by not believing you have nothing to gain and everything to loose.

If I where to place a bet on it, Id bet on believing, cant loose but could with everything,

No. If believers are right, then their "gods" did a pith-poor job (excuthe the lithp) of providing evidence for belief when all the evidence that exists speaks to the contrary. If a "god" is so egomaniacal that it demands ignorance and sycophancy, then it's not worth belief or obedience, never mind my adoration or "love".

Whenever I hear the religious talk about their "love of god", they remind me of Winston Smith and his "love" for Big Brother at the end of Eric Blair's "1984".

scoutmaster: If I where to place a bet on it, Id bet on believing, cant loose but could with everything,

You can't let go of (loose) rational thought?

I'm not correcting, I'm asking your exact meaning.

I like this and do agree with you 100%. Something to think about, (I've quoted this before)--"

"Is there no virtue ('in believing') save a wholesome fear of hellfire"? N. Hawthorn, "The Scarlet Letter". I often wonder if it is all that endearing to God that we love Him just because we don't want to go to hell, rather than loving Him because we really love Him. Remember,He is more like us than we give Him credit for. JMO

If he is more 'like' us then he would certainly be athiest/agnostic or pantheist and or spiritual but not religious; since those numbers are growing in leaps and bounds.

Please tell me how he could send himself to hell then? grin

I don't know if you are on the right path, but you are certainly blazing a trail in the forest--your question might seem facetious to some, but it packs a punch. Good for youhandshake

It probably seems annoying to some. laugh but even headed to the forest, I'm sure some could find a hell in it.

It is just a comfort factor built into us to cope with Death... that is just a simplistic view of it and that is that.dunno

ninamil: Which religious can defend his thought without using the element of faith? What atheist or agnostic can defend their ideas without uncertainty and distortion?
From what philosophical, religious or scientific fountain you drank (no alcoholic drinks ) to defend the thesis that God exists or that God does not exist?
could you share your knowledge and beliefs?

An agnostic merely says he/she does not KNOW the truth.

I am not an atheist; I cannot deny the possibility of God existing (although I deduce if God exists HE is a really evil being).

I am not of a faith, because I lack the mental dexterity to lose all logic and rationality.

I do NOT know...... that is all I DO know! dunno

"Truth" is a companion only to its own time. (remember--in the Dark Ages the world was flat. Period. If you disagreed you were drawn and quartered. Or thrown into boiling oil. Or hung upside down. So...as far as you were concerned--OK! OK! the earth IS flat!!!!!) knowwhadisay, ray? knowwhadimeanjellybean?

The earth is made of pepperoni pizza.

It's kinda yummy.

It's a thin crust pizza and the topping is melted and a bit 'squidgy'.,

EliteOne: Excuse me? God who orders bashing of babies heads against rocks hardly qualifies as anything more then a blood thirsty creation of human control. Do yourself a favour read the bible and don’t go around preaching garbage. If god was all loving then all he had to do is forgive!!!! How hard is it?

Just don’t ask me to start quoting the bible! I have more ammunition then all of the Taliban!!
cheers

bohdiprana: It would be difficult to prove that there isn't an atheist who didn't murder someone. However, they don't get to hold positions in high government offices either, so who knows what they would do if they actually got any real power.

Redonkulous huh. ...An atheist might even put an end to the god wars. Then they would just become plain old, "that country just pisses us off so we're killing them, wars". laugh

The problem with Pascal's Wager (which is what you just posted) is that you are believing out of fear. Not because you truly believe.

Me? I'd rather live my live without fear.

IF there is a god (Which evidence points to NO), he's all loving and gave me the mind to think for myself. This mind, which led me to research, which led me the atheism, would be the gift "god" gave me. I think an all-loving diety would forgive me for not believing.

It's my actions that count. Not my beliefs.

DEC19063: I never read about babies being bashes against rocks so i don't know what bible you are reading!!

Choose to do what ever you care to do you know your heart you have to live with it.

I wish you all well and have only shared what i have in my heart.

You haven't read the bible front to back as you claim.

This is found in Psalms.

"Blessed is he who bashes the babies against the stones."

God COMMANDED atrocities. You would know that if you ever actually read the bible.

Ever read Mosiac Law? Talk about ridiculous. And you say God Policed the Earth? How? By telling us to stone unruly teens, non-virgins, those who work on the SSabbath, etc, etc, etc?

Get your head out of your.......
