Well, we got a foot of snow a few days ago which was a mess. Then it started to melt and before it was halfway gone we just got hit with another snow storm. This one wasn't as deep but it was wetter and much heavier. Good snowball snow. The first one was very fluffy and powdery. Today was very difficult because I have 18 chickens and they kinda suffer when it snows. I had to go out 3-4 times to the pen to beat the accumulation of snow off the netting covering the pen so it wouldn't cave in under the weight. Half of it caved in anyway. My neighbors barn collapsed under the snow load, she was lucky her horses weren't in there when it came down. Now there's another huge snow storm coming across from the west coast which should be here in about 3 days. Schools have been closed all week and they probably wont open next week either. I just hope to hell we don't lose power. Been lucky so far which is amazing because this area is famous for power outages from snow storms.

I love snow storms and power outages! A generator comes in handy, but I love lighting candles and oil lamps and just curling up in front of a fireplace. I'd love being snowed in all winter. But I've never been accused of being normal.

Yeah, and somebody to cut & split firewood and carry it in the house. As you probably know there's nothing worse than your woodpile getting buried under a foot of snow.

24.3 in the Hill.

February 6, 2010 (WPVI) -- Philadelphia is officially recording 28.5" of snow. That makes this the second biggest snowstorm ever, behind the January 6-7, 1996 storm that dumped 30.7" and ahead of the December 19-20, 2009 storm that dropped 23.2". This is the first time in recorded history that Philadelphia has experienced two storms of more than 20" in one winter season. With a season snowfall total of 56.3" so far, this rankes the second snowiest winter in Philadelphia since 95/96. And we are only about halfway through winter!

SNOWFALL AMOUNTS. Philadelphia: 28.5", Wilmington: 25", Atlantic City 16.3", Cherry Hill: 24.3", Drexel: 24", Brookhaven: 26", Vineland: 19.8" Allentown 7.7".We are still waiting for some updated numbers, so we will be adding to many of these totals.

I grew up in Northern NH. We expected to get at least one or two big storms a year.

Not to be snide, but as one who spent about 20 years putting up with that much snow and -40C temperatures every winter, I always smirk at people's reactions at having to deal with it when they aren't used to. tongue

It's even more enjoyable having not seen snow or sub-freezing temperatures in five years. grin

Thought we were bad here with the little we got, nothing in comparison to you guys, but the ice was deadly here on the roads and footpaths, everywhere like a skate rink...
